As our society grows more and more obsessed with the concept of weight loss the question on many peoples minds seems to be Are these new miracle diets really worth trying or can they be detrimental to ones health? The most popular miracle diet of our time seems to be The Atkins Diet, which involves eating very few to no carbohydrates. One downfall to this method, as research is currently finding, is that people on this type of diet tend to increase their intake of high cholesterol and fat foods leading to as many medical problems as obesity may have caused them.

The Atkins diet is what is called a ketogenic diet. This genre of diet focuses on only protein consumption, meaning the dieter eats nothing with sugar or carbohydrates (i.e. no bread or fruit). These restrictions force a net reduction of calories and rapid weight loss soon follows. Most of the weight loss can be attributed to water loss. The water loss occurs because the severe restriction of carbohydrates caused liver and muscle glycogen depletion (Coleman, 1). This diet can also cause kidney damage because it is unable to concentrate urine (due to lack of water) and sodium excretion increases. After initial rapid weight loss the loss of pounds usually slows, and in fact the dieters fat reserve remains the same throughout the whole process.

Another huge downfall to this type of diet is the loss of valuable vitamins and minerals. The dieter relies on a diet of only meat, and non-starchy vegetables which do not provide all of the nutrients to stay healthy. Even the author of the book, The Diet Revolution, and inventor of the Atkins diet, Dr Atkins, suggest that the dieter must take supplements to remain healthy (Coleman, 1). Other side effects may include Gout (from high fat foods), and coronary heart disease. The diet originated as a method for those who needed to have a heart operation but first had to lose substantial amounts of weight, but in actuality it is very risky to those with conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

In conclusion, in our societys race to become more healthy and thin we may be causing ourselves a plethora of new problems. As with most diets those who wish to start a ketogenic diet must first consult with their doctor. When starting a diet of this kind one must evaluate whether it will be beneficial to them or not. As always, the best way to maintain ones weight is a healthy diet and routine exercise. Other diets will come and go, but a healthy life style will always remain effective.

Friendliness is simply the joy of sharing without conditions, without expectations, with no desire that something should be returned- not even gratefulness.(Friendship 1). Many believe that to know friendship is to know a special kind of joy. In the dictionary, friendship is described as a person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. Even though there are many meanings of the word friendship there are only two kinds of friendship, good and bad. Also, many different people have demonstrated the power of friendship but one woman holds the true meaning of it.

In life, many friends come and go but the best friends stay for a lifetime. There are many types of good friendships, such as, friendships with actual friends, family, or just acquaintances. Friendship is an extremely important aspect of life. Good friends are cherished and adored, some would say, the road to a friends house is never long (Friendship 1). This shows that, when you have a great friend it doesnt take a lot to be friends with that person. Being someones friend means to know the ins and outs of that person and even their darkest secrets. You also love, respect, and know that person very well. Another friendship is one that a person has with his or her family. Sometimes these can be the best friendships because that person knows the family or family member better than anyone else does. On the other hand, they can be bad because you never get a break from your family because you live with them each day. The last type of friendship is an acquaintance. This is a person that someone would just say hi or bye and maybe has a quick conversation. They dont really share much, and are not very close, but they are friends. This is what most friendships are. Usually someone only has a couple good friends and a lot of acquaintances.

Wheeler

Everyone has experienced a bad friendship at least once in his or her life. Difficult friendships can leave one deeply wounded. As Buddha once said, An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; for a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind(Friendship 1). When a good or best friend hurts a person it can be devastating because they have invested so much time and energy into that friendship and for what? What a person needs to remember is that any friendship can help them and be used as a means for them to build thriving relationships on. Another type of bad friendship is someone being hurt by an acquaintance; usually this doesnt bother a person as much but is defiantly painful.

Believe it or not, the familiar fear of mice extends beyond the rodent realm to the world of technology.

The good news is that there is a way in the retail realm to avoid the computer mouse and also save time, money and improve efficiency.

James Cagle, president of Greensboro-based Performance Oriented Solutions Inc., says that using a touchscreen system instead of a mouse can eliminate 70 percent of training time. That means that in 0 minutes, a restaurant staff can be trained to use his system.

In October, Winston-Salem-based The Village Tavern will test a new handheld version of Cagles touchscreen system, following up on its installation of the stationary terminals in the first of its seven restaurant in 15.

Jeff Olds, assistant controller for The Village Tavern, says the company spent about $60,000 to equip each restaurant with the software and hardware for the stationary terminals. The cost of a handheld unit, which works with the existing system, is about a third of the cost of one of a terminal.

The return on investment is in increased efficiency and thus increased profit, Olds says.

What were looking for is increased table turns by shortening the length of time between when (diners) sit down and leave, Olds says.

Touchscreens allow servers to enter orders and transmit them to the kitchen in a more expeditious manner, Olds says, resulting in about 80 more tables being served on an average day.

Cost of the touchscreen system ranges from $75 to in excess of $00,000, depending on the size of the operation and its needs, Cagle says. His clients, which run the gamut from restaurants to hair salons, choose between touchscreen monitors that connect to a separate computer and range from $750 to $1,50 or single, integrated units that range from $,000 to $5,000.

A company that spends $0,000 can expect to see a return on its investment in 11 months to 4 months, Cagle says.

The word courage is nor easily defined. To some people, courage is seen in everyday acts of bravery. To others, however, courage is a much more complex and profound characteristic.

Having courage means to confront one's fears, and to stand up for one's beliefs, no matter what the circumstance. It is not necessary to be a super-hero in order to be courageous. The simple things that may seem rather easy to do for most people can be quite difficult for others. Getting over one's fear or nervousness takes a great amount of courage, and should be seen as equally important as physical acts of courage or heroism.

Courage is being honest, in all things, to all people, and most importantly to oneself. Courage requires a person to do what they believe is right at all times, even in the midst of its consequences. Acts of courage go unnoticed everyday. The television and radio tell of lives being saved from natural disasters and atrocious people, but fail to mention how much willpower and courage it takes to not be influenced by peer pressures or stresses in life. Courage is a very strong trait to posses, and is a very good indicator of an honest person.

Courage could be defined as unwavering loyalty and dedication to duty, especially in the line of fire. Courage is also accepted as being true to oneself, whether one makes consistent choices or not. Consistent and inconsistent are labels that others will assign to a person, depending on whether they like what they are doing or not. But is it better to be make consistent decisions and be miserable in order to satisfy others? That is a choice each person has to make, as an individual. Some people give and give until they wear themselves out. They are too busy trying to satisfy the needs and demands of others, that they end up losing themselves in the process.

Courage is being loyal to oneself, despite the presence of danger. Courage is having the gull to act upon what one believes in, and not the opinion of a government, religion, family member, or opinion leader.

Please note that this sample paper on Defining Courage is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Defining Courage, we are here to assist you. Your cheap custom college paper on Defining Courage will be written from scratch, so you do not have to worry about its originality.

What makes people act the way they do? Is it hereditary? Could it be that instinct alone guides people and their behavior? Or is it that people become a product of their environment? The answer can be found in Flannery O'Connor's "A Good Man is Hard to Find". A Grandmother, living with her son and his family, appears to be a manipulative and deceitful old woman. As she and her family take a vacation drive to Florida they stumble across three escaped convicts and are systematically murdered, thanks to Grandmother's deceitful ploy. The driving force behind the Grandmother's deceit is the way the family treats her.

The Grandmother tries to convince Bailey, her son, to change their travel destination from Florida to Tennessee, and is completely ignored. " Here this fellow that calls himself The Misfit is aloose and headed toward Florida…" (45). "… I wouldn't take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it." (45). "Bailey didn't look up from his reading, so she wheeled around then and faced the children's mother…" (45). As she pleads with the mother, we see that again she is ignored. "You all ought to take them somewhere else for a change so they would see different parts of the world and be broad." (45). " The children's mother didn't seem to hear her…" (45). It is clear that neither adult has any interest in The Grandmother's wants or concerns. Indeed, it seems that they do not even know she exists, not important enough to acknowledge.

In addition to the way Bailey and his wife treat her, The Grandmother has to put up with verbal abuse from her grandchildren. Apparently these children can say whatever they want to their Grandmother, no matter how disrespectful, without any repercussions. The little girl, June Star, says of The Grandmother, " She wouldn't stay home for a million bucks, afraid she'd miss something…" (46). The boy, John Wesley, adds his bit by saying, "Tennessee is just a hillbilly dumping ground…" (47). An indirect insult to the Grandmother who, the book leads us to believe, is from Tennessee. These children, her grandchildren no less, clearly have no respect for The Grandmother. To be treated in such a fashion at that age, by children of their age, has got to be a bitter pill to swallow.

The Grandmother's attempt to deceive her family is a direct result of the family's mistreatment of her. Bailey and his wife clearly are not interested in The Grandmothers opinions or desires, and the children show only disdain, bordering on contempt, when speaking to The Grandmother.

Chuck, Matt, and I held additional referee training sessions to build on the refs knowledge. One session focused on U6 only and one on U8 only. This was step in the referee development process and focused on the practical application of the refs position on the field, making the calls, blowing the whistle loud & long, The purpose of the application training is to build consistency and confidence in what the refs are doing. We want to move away from the ref who stands, is not engaged with the game, and unsure of making a call.

The expectation is for the ref to know how to work with his/her partner ref on the field, consistency in calls & actions, and understanding how to perform their job by actually doing it in front of peers and adults. We role played the various roles of players, coaches, parents, and of course, refs in game like situations. The refs who attended had great questions and left the sessions with enthusiasm and a better understanding of their job.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on i don't have one

We also provided each of the attending referees with a laminated cheat sheet with a quick run down of U6 on one side and U8 on the other. The information addresses ball size, # on the field, major fouls, minor fouls, substitutions, etc. This should clarify many of the basics which seem to vary from field to field, coach to coach, and ref to ref.

There are additional laminated sheets in the Field Marshals box, in the bag with the walkie-talkies. (The refs also received training on how to use the walkie-talkie and how to check in with the FM on the w-t.) Over the next several weeks, if you are the FM, please ask the refs checking in if they received a laminated sheet (its a x 4 card) from the training and if they have it with them. If they do not have a card, please give them one. Tell them to have it available at the field when they ref as their reference point.

FYI - Additional SWUSC T-shirts have been ordered to give to the new refs. They should be available in about weeks.

Textile and Apparel trade is the most complex phenomena of the new globalization era. There are many factors that contribute to the complexity of global textile and apparel trade. One of the most prominent factors is the issue of free trade, which greatly affects the textile and apparel trade industry. Free Trade refers to trade without restrictions such as tariffs and quotas, which is hurting the industry. This means that many countries have access to our products that did not in the past.

The United States imports a great deal of labor intensive products such as apparel and furniture because of globalization; there is an increased integration of the interdependence between the world's economies. Today textile and apparel production forms one global sector with one global market. Another reason that global trade for textile and apparel is so important is because trade is one of the most accurately measured economic activities for the sector.

United States textile and apparel producers are realizing the importance of participating in global trade and production for survival in the industry. A growing number of U.S. textile and apparel companies are joining their Asian and European competitors in assuming a more global orientation in their operations. Therefore, many industries are seeing potential markets beyond the U.S. borders.

The main issue of concern for the U.S. Textile and Apparel complex is the change in trade laws that are currently going into effect; this will show what the WTO will be expecting for 005. Apparel and textile import quotas supposedly will be eliminated among all WTO-Member Nations; this will change the multi-billion dollar industry.

Write my Essay on Textile and Apparel Trade for me

Some have a positive outlook for the future of the textile and apparel trade and a feeling that foreign operations of the U.S. companies are ready for some significant changes and the push of better trade programs will keep the industry safe in the no quota industry of 005.

In the story, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain illustrates the importance of Friendship and Family. Mark Twain illustrates these points through the lives of Huckleberry Finn and his accomplice Jim. Throughout the story, Mark Twain shows many examples of how Friendship and Family are important towards Huckleberry Finn and Jim.

Friendship in this novel takes a big role in the personalities of Huckleberry Finn and Jim. For example, Huckleberry Finn says that, "Don't ever let on to know us. And if you hear any digging going on nights, it's us we're going to set you free." This shows that Huckleberry Finn cares for Jim and thinks of Jim as a close friend. Furthermore, true friends will put their lives on the line to protect the ones they care about. In addition, Huckleberry Finn showed concern for Jim's well being, "Git up and hump yourself, Jim! There ain't a minute to lose. They're after us!" This also shows that Huckleberry Finn truly cares for Jim as a friend. Moreover, These feelings in marked contrast with Hucks feelings concerning other people in the early part of the novel where he always is uncomfortable and wishes to leave them. This stated empathy shows that the two outcasts will have a successful and rewarding friendship as they drift down the river as the novel continues.

Another major theme in this novel is Family. For example, "I hadnt had a bite to eat since yesterday, so Jim he got out some corn-dodgers and buttermilk, and pork and cabbage and greens." This shows that Jim was taking in Huckleberry Finn as if he were his older brother, or even a father. Furthermore, Huckleberry Finn needs an older, wiser figure to lead him towards manhood and teach him about life. In addition, Huckleberry Finn showed that he to thought of Jim as a relative when he said, "I was the best friend old Jim ever had in the world, and the only one hes got now; and then I happened to look around and see that paper. It was a close place. I took it up, and held it in my hand. I was a-trembling, because Id got to decide, forever, betwixt two things, and I knowed it. I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself All right, then, Ill go to hell -- and tore it up." This also shows that Huckleberry Finn cared for Jim so much that he was going to go to hell for Jim. In addition, deciding to go to hell for someone means that that person must mean a whole lot to you, like a father or Brother. In closing, the most precious thing that a man owns is his family, therefore Huckleberry Finn and Jim adventured side by side to prove they were equal and that they respected one another.

I was blind to everything around me. The sensation was new and exciting, and I felt as if I was somehow in another world. I was in a world of blackness, but somehow, my other senses compensated for this loss. It was as if my hearing was an instrument- newly tuned in to my surroundings.

I felt around in the blackness, searching for something or someone. It was a bright, pleasant day. The sun was warm on my back, and I could smell the tall grass around me. The wind blew my hair from my face, and for a brief moment I thought I saw someone, but I knew I must have imagined it. "Hello!!" I cried. "Is anyone there?? Somebody! Anybody!" I started to run in that direction, lumbering through the tall grass. I soon became tired however, and the warm sun combined with a lack of water made me feel lightheaded. I rested until I caught my breath, and then continued on at a slow but steady pace. All of a sudden, I could feel the climate around me change. It was as if I had stepped into an air-conditioned room. The air around me was heavy and damp, and my sweaty skin became cold as it dried. There was no wind- it had been blocked out my what I discovered to be a grove of trees. As I walked I began to hear the sounds of running water. I figured that I must be nearing a river of some kind, and continued in that direction. The ground under my feet was spongy- the foliage was deep and thick. As I felt my way through, I realized my sight was not important here- I wouldn't be able to see anything anyways. My steady pace was soon interrupted however by strange sounds. I heard a low whistle, and tiny whisperings among the trees. I was excited, but also apprehensive. My lack of sight made me feel vulnerable and alone- I no longer wanted to be here. The voices grew louder, as if they were approaching. I felt along until I reached the base of a large tree, and crouched down. As I waited, I felt a strange tickling sensation running up the edge of my leg. It gave me the chills. It's a good thing I can't see what sort of creature was on my leg, I thought, or else I would probably be quite terrified. I heard a twig snap across the way. I froze. What I was sure now to be a person was out of breath. I could hear the hiss of a walkie-talkie, and a boy's voice said "Are you safe?" Still panting, I heard a girl's voice in reply. "Yeah I'm fine. He'll never catch us- are you kidding? Not in here anyway." I slowly snuck out from behind the tree, being careful to make as little noise as possible. Then, quick as a flash, I jumped in her direction, waving my arms wildly until they came in contact with her. She screamed, and then began to laugh. I smiled and pulled the blindfold off. "Caught you."

In the story, "In Another Country", by Ernest Hemingway, throughout the story he is constantly comparing life to an iceberg under water saying that life is not always the way you see it. One example of how Hemingway compares life to an iceberg is, "There was a time when none of us believed in the machines, and one day the major said it was all nonsense". The major and his crew never believed in machines to help him and his soldiers but now he is realizing and believing that the machines help people. Another example of how Hemingway compares life to an iceberg is, "He had lived a very long time with death and was a little detached. We were all a little detached, and there was nothing that held us together except that we met every afternoon at the hospital". This shows that the major had gone through life basically knowing that if he had gotten injured there would be probably no chance of surviving because they did not believing machines and the only thing that held him and his crew together was meeting at the hospital everyday. In conclusion Hemingway compares a iceberg which is under the water, and you only can see whats above the water to the way people see life.Medieval German Trade Towns

During Medieval times, trade was an immense part of almost everyones daily lives in Germanic civilizations; Hamburg and Lubeck were the two major trade towns in Medieval Germany and are still major trade towns today. While most countries and costal towns were along the Mediterranean Sea, some of the busiest costal trade towns were in countries along the Baltic Sea. Germany was one of these countries. The two towns were vital to the culture and development of Germany and were also importaint to people who lived there.

Lubeck was a major trade town in Medieval Germany and played an essential role in Germany's culture. Count Adolf II Holstein first founded it in 114. The town was erected on the site of early Slavic settlements. The Duke of Saxony, Henry the Lion, refounded Lubeck c. 1158. In 16, the final privaleges of a free imperial city were secured. Lubeck was head of the Hanseatic League and was the leading Medieval German trade center for the Baltic region (Matthewson, 5DC).

Hamburg was also a big part of trade on the Baltic Sea. The town of Hamburg served as a missionary center for Northern Europe. In 141 and 14 Hamburg signed treaties with Lubeck, which led to the formation of the Hanseatic League. However, in 1, the town split from the league and became independant. Even now, Hamburg is one of Europe's major ports. Some of their exports include chemicals, food products, industrial equipment. Hamburg has an extensive harbor and dock installations (Hamilton, 54DC).

Meaning of Music

What is your favorite song? What type of music speaks to you? Music

has been used to mean various things from a pleasing sound to a

printed document showing how a piece is to be performed. I think

defining music is as difficult as defining art. Because just as art has many

meanings. So does music. Everyone has their on interpretation about music.

What is the definition?, music is a versitile form of communication.

Music is all around us. We hear it on the radio, television, and in

stores. We go to concerts, operas, and other musical events. And we even

make music ourselves, when we whistle. Their is a broad category of music to choose from.

Today There are many different kinds of music to choose from. The most

popular music today is rock, pop, R and B, hip-hop, and country. Music conveys

some artistic significance that has meaning for the listener. When you listen to

music, you can anticipate what comes next with the same pleasure you find in

rereading a favorite story or poem. Listening to music also helps you

understand the way artists use music to communicate with you.

Because I listen to many types of music. I made up my own category of

music called serious music. My definition of serious music is music with artistic

communication. Music that has meaning or value. Music that communicates something you find satisfaction in receiving.

For example, everyday or almost everyday I listen to my favorite song

Inside us All. Its a very spiritual song about inner peace and keeping your

head up. I always listen to this song when Im thinking, worried about

something, or writing a essay.

We judge music by the importance of what it has to say. If a specific work

of music communicates nothing to us, then it means nothing to us. In high

school I remember writing a poem about music. I cant remember

everything I said but I do remember saying music is freedom. Music is not just

about arranging sounds and rhythms. Its a self-expression of how someone who

writes the song feels. Its a way of communicating with the world.

Appropriate sources must be used to persuade audience

This essay shows arguments about how do writers sometimes, fail to choose the right words when writing a literary work. According to Miller and Swift, the authors of the essay, as time passes by, words change their meanings thus, changing their rules when used in grammar but many have a hard time giving it up. As a result, there are many ambiguous and insidious terms that take time and trouble to write more precisely. Contributing to this problem according to them, are the old terms that have lost it favor and the psychological impact of the grammatical rule mandating masculine-gender pronouns. They tried to show who's in charge of the English language by citing several evidences that shows the unconscious degrading effects of the present language today, more especially to the women. The importance of using clear and precise words were also introduced because for them, it reflects a vigorously alive, dynamic society that is capable of identifying almost all of the new situations that has not been a subject of conversations before. For the finale, they quoted George Orwell when he said that we must let the meaning choose the appropriate words not the words to choose the appropriate meaning.

The structure of this essay is based on their assumption that the sexes are thought of as opposite. If one of the sexes is becoming archaic, then the other sex must be the one in charge of the English language. They gave examples of words to prove their assumption and clearly manifests that the two terms, instead of having parallel meanings, happens to overlap one sex over the other. They used the bible and history to establish the facts. "In the book of Genesis, Adam named all the animals and was given dominion over them, later, the story says, "Adam called his wife's name Eve." (550). They also cite distinguishable persons that support their arguments. They divided it in to three sections, "Female-Negative-trial," "The Slippery Slope," and "Resistance to Change and the Problem of Precision.

On the "Female-Negative-Trial" the authors advance the arguments by comparing the two words representing each sex using the definition it has from the most recently updated edition of Webster's Third New International Dictionary. The two entries were proven to be not comparable to one another because the definition of womanly has no other comparable synonyms according to the dictionary than when it defines the man where there are admirable qualities that all of us might wish we had.

Amsted is based on a true story about an 18 slave revolution. La Amistad is the Spanish word for "friendship", ironically the ship had nothing to do with friends at all. The ship's purpose was to illegally transport slaves to Spain.

The slaves were taken from a slave fortress and transported aboard the Tecora to a slave auction in Havana, Cuba. It is horrifying to see the conditions in which these slaves endured in their journey across the Atlantic Ocean. They were shackled and chained, thrown into an unsanitary, overcrowded cell and fed one hand-full of food a day. These conditions were so harsh that only a third of them actually survived to make the final destination. Once they arrived in Cuba, 44 were auctioned off to the Spanish and were to be transported by the way of La Amistad. The revolt on the Amistad resulted in deaths of the captain of the boat and a few of the crewmembers, leaving two men who were necessary to navigate the boat back to Africa. The slaves had control of the boat for a little more than six weeks before the U.S. Navy recaptured the boat and forced the slaves to appear before an American judge and jury for murder. The trial was the beginning of a judiciary battle that would have the American people in frenzy. The abolitionists led by Theodore Jones were fighting for the slaves on the grounds that it was morally wrong and they were illegally taken from their homeland. The slaves were represented by attorney at law Roger Baldwin who thought the case was an open shut case because the issue of their freedom had nothing to do with murder or mutiny, but the fact that their origin was not Cuba, but Africa, meaning they were not legal slaves.

The judge was dealing with more than issues in just this case. He was under pressure of the president Martin Van Buren to send the slaves back to Cuba fearing the southern slave owning states would not re-elect him to office if they were to free the slaves. After hearing the powerful speech of Roger Baldwin the slaves had won their freedom, at least for a short time. When President Van Buren heard the news of the verdict he quickly appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. The slaves were taken back into custody and a new trial was going to begin.

Gordimer employs a paradoxical mingling of continuity and change in order to introduce the Smales unsettling immersion into a foreign class structure. The fact that July began that day for them as his kind has always done for their kind suggests a static continuity or repetition that belies the radical setting change between affluent governors residences, commercial hotel rooms, shift bosses company bungalows and the aperture in thick mud walls that now serves as the Smales front door. The setting change--an abrupt transition between the knock on the door and the non-sequitor that follows (no door)--not only foregrounds the correspondence between place and the formation of identity, but also introduces the inversion of power that characterizes the Smales new dependence upon July. In other words, whereas the master bedrooms of Johannesburg provide a setting in which the Smales exercise authority over July, their displacement to his village suddenly invests July with a degree of power over them (a dialectical Hegelian inversion, about which more below). And yet Julys broken English in the first line (You like to have some cup of tea?) underscores the language barriers that somewhat limit his recourse to power.Several objects are invested with symbolic power in Nadine Gordimers Julys People. Gordimer presents Bams gun and the yellow bakkie (and its keys) as objects that represent power in the text. At the beginning of the text the Smales family owns these objects, and as the narrative progresses their grasp on these objects of power becomes more tenuous, and July and other blacks assume ownership of the objects. The transfer of ownership, like the parallel transfer that occurs in Johannesburg, is uncomfortable for the whites involved. July, as well, experiences some discomfort as he takes power, in the form of the keys. The characters in the novel are continually forced to negotiate new ways of relating to one another, and Gordimer makes use of the awkward communication between the whites and blacks that result from a new power structure and the language barrier between them to illustrate the discomfort of that negotiation. Pages 57 - 6 deal with the issue of the bakkie keys in particular

The speech that Nelson Mandela made on February 11, 10 when he was released from prison.

Art and life intertwines. Life is non existent without art. Life is art. Art is life. You cannot look in the world around you and not see art. You might not appreciate it, but all things are art. Even Burglaries can be done in artistic ways even though they are crimes that should be punished for. check this out.

The most recent burglary in Ocean City has led to the arrest of Ingrid Snitchweasel at 45 on Monday afternoon. Snitchweasel, the employee who was responsible for closing The Nuts 'n' Bolts Hardware Store on the night it was buglarized, was arrested as she was unloading merchandise from her van into the back of Lou's Hardware in Rehoboth Beach. "We suspected her all along," said Police Sgt. Leonard Handcuff.

The Nuts 'n' Bolts Hardware store, located in the Seahorse Village Shopping Center, 0504 Ocean Highway, was buglarized late on Sunday night. Irv Oldguy of Sandy Paradise Trailer Community, across the street from the burglarized store, said he thought he heard a crashing noise late Sunday night, but had not reported anything because "those damn kids are always making noise; if I reported every goddam noise I heard, I'd be on the phone to the police all day and all night." The store's manager, Otis Wrenchman, arrived at the store at approximately 815 on Monday Morning, only to find the store vandalized with a rear window smashed and a brick lying inside on the floor.

The merchandise missing included 6 multicolored beach umbrellas, crab cookers, a motorized scooter, a large, unopened box of plastic buckets and shovels, and various items of fishing equipment. Mr. Wrenchman also reported that the cash register had been left open, and an undisclosed amount of money had been taken. The total worth of the merchandise taken is approximately $4000. Apparently, The Nuts 'n' Bolts Hardware Store isn't the only store that has been robbed in this neighborhood recently. Seventeen other stores have been broken into this winter Season along a 14-mile stretch of Ocean Highway. Police chief Paul Itical confirms the frequency with which the buglaries have been occurring in the neighborhood. "We just don't know what is happening," he said. To make at least one arrest has brought a sense of relief to community business owners.

Witchcraft in the seventeenth century was by no means just a New England, or puritan phenomena. Such outbursts of hysteria could be found across Europe, as well as other American colonies. Nevertheless ninety-five percent of all formal witchcraft accusations in North America in the seventeenth century occurred in New England. Their puritan beliefs obviously strengthened their conviction, in what can now be termed a superstition. It is impossible to explain some of the events and this has led to a great historical debate over the force behind the accusations. A pattern does emerge, however, that suggests that those who failed to fit in, or even seemed a threat to the existing social order, were the most likely to be accused. It therefore appears that in many cases witchcraft scares were used to buttress the existing social order.

The historian G.Kittredge plays down the role of puritanism in explaining the hysteria, pointing out in his work that it could be found in both the Anglican and Catholic church.* When, however, you consider ninety-five per cent of all formal accusations for witchcraft in North America and ninety per cent of all executions for witchcraft in North America, all happened in puritan New England, puritanism can not so easily be dismissed.

New Englanders had a wide range of beliefs we would now most probably term superstitions or myths. These, for example, included the belief in mermaids. One of their principle beliefs was the belief in providential magic, that is searching for signs in the natural world for God's approval or disapproval. Everything, they believed, had a meaning and thus in their thinking there was no such thing as an accident or co-incidence. On top of this we can add their firm belief in the Devil, whose work was carried out on earth by witches. When everything has got a greater meaning, bad luck can look like witchcraft.

Puritanism was a highly individualistic creed. The challenge to puritan society was to focus this individualistic thrust without society dissolving into countless sects, each with their own interpretation of the truth. So whilst it was individualistic, it also required unity. Communities were formed around churches and the decisions of that community were made by that congregation. Only church members could vote or hold office. Puritanism, therefore had no real clear division between political and religious life. A political threat could be taken as a religious threat. Protest and discord were viewed as the work of the Devil. This helps explain why witchcraft scares were so common in New England and shows that they were used to scare off protest and discord, thus buttressing the existing social order.
