The values of a play's characters and the society in which they live may be revealed through scenes of social occasions. Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" includes one such scene- the party of Liuboff Andreievna Ravensky. This event brings together several characters in the play and offers an opportunity for the reader to asses their values. The scene contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole in that it reveals important characterization.

One character whose values become evident in the party scene is Liuboff, the hostess. The reader is informed about Liuboff's character through its contrast with another- Peter Trofimoff, with whom she has a disagreement. The two differ with regard to the value of love, as well as that of the past. For example, while Liuboff embraces love and all that it entails, Trofimoff believes that he is above it

As if I'd ever given her grounds

to believe I'd stoop to such

vulgarity! We are above love.

Furthermore, Trofimoff has difficulty comprehending Liuboff's disability to let go of the past. Again, the two characters conflict in their values and it allows for insight into Liuboff's mind

What truth? You see where truth is,

and where falsehood is, but I seem

to have lost my sight and see nothing.

Liuboff is attached to her memories and not ready to give that up. She has difficulty facing reality, and is comforted by the falseness that may surround her.

Firce is another character who reveals a significant value during the party in Act III. His feelings regarding social hierarchy become evident when Firce says

At hour balls some time ago,

generals and barons and admirals

used to dance, and now we send

for post office clerks and the

stationmaster, and even they

come reluctantly. I'm very weak.

Here, Firce is saddened by the evolution of the social order over time. the party, which was once an exclusively upper-class event is now even inadequate for the lower class. This is symbolic of the fall of the aristocracy of Russian society in the play.

Based on what was said by important characters in Act III of the "The Cherry Orchard," readers are able to appreciate the contribution to the entire play. Through Firce's character, the collapse of the Russian elite is focused upon. This feeds in perfectly with the play in terms of its symbolism, which is also portrayed through the selling of the Cherry Orchard to a former slave. The social order has completely changed and not without greatly influencing the lives of the characters.

Liuboff's attachment to the past and her memories further supports the play's conflict by showing how she is being affected by the fall of the elite class. Her inability to face her fate relates to Firce's acknowledgement of the same situation. The irony in such events contribute to the overall depiction of the antagonist in "The Cherry Orchard"-- not a person, but rather the gloom consuming the lives of the individuals in the play.

Each character in The Crucible have thier own unique personality that adds wonderfully to the play. The story takes place in Salem, Mass. in 16 during the Salem Witch Trials. Arthur Miller uses the characters John Proctor, Abigail Williams, and John Hale to illustrate very depictively the chaos of Salem, Mass during the witch trials.

John Proctor is a good, honest, God-fearing man with one fault-adultry. John Proctors lost for Abigail Williams led to an affair that Abigail took serious. John Proctor knows of his wrong doing and cant forgive himself of it. He learns of Abigails psycological rampage of the townand of the accusation of his wife, Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft. He knows of all the deciet and the lies and the only way to save his wifes life is to admit commiting adultry. He tries every other way to get his wife pardoned but in the end the confession is not even enough. He is accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. Judge Danforth and Hanforth offer to let Proctor go if he signs a written document of his confession. Because he cannot have his reputation and dignity be stained by a false charge, he takes his death with pride and honor, and John Proctor would not have had it any other way. Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feetof them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name! (1118)

Abigail is a kuniving, ruthless, jealous woman. She is a orphaned child and not well-respected in the small social ladder of Salem. She has had an affair of John Proctor and every night she longs for him though lust not love. Ever since she was caught dancing in the woods, she had been controlling everyone to everything. She instills fear into her friends and manioulates them through fear for their life. And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. (1044) She uses this situation get Elizabeth Proctor out of the picture so their would be no one to get in the way of them. Because she has the Voice of God, she sends 1 people to their deaths, without feeling any kind of guilt or remorse. Her entire motive throughout the play is hatred, envy, and revenge.

Mark Twains The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel about a young boys coming of age in the Missouri of the mid-1800s. Themain character, Huckleberry Finn, spends much time in the novel floatingdown the Mississippi River on a raft with a runaway slave named Jim.Before he does so, however, Huck spends some time in the fictional town ofSt. Petersburg where a number of people attempt to influence him. Before the novel begins, Huck Finn has led a life of absolutefreedom. His drunken and often missing father has never paid muchattention to him; his mother is dead and so, when the novel begins, Huck isnot used to following any rules. The books opening finds Huck living withthe Widow Douglas and her sister, Miss Watson. Both women are fairly oldand are really somewhat incapable of raising a rebellious boy like HuckFinn. Nevertheless, they attempt to make Huck into what they believe willbe a better boy. Specifically, they attempt, as Huck says, to sivilizehim. This process includes making Huck go to school, teaching him variousreligious facts, and making him act in a way that the women find sociallyacceptable. Huck, who has never had to follow many rules in his life, finds the demands the women place upon him constraining and the life withthem lonely. As a result, soon after he first moves in with them, he runsaway. He soon comes back, but, even though he becomes somewhat comfortablewith his new life as the months go by, Huck never really enjoys the life ofmanners, religion, and education that the Widow and her sister impose uponhim. Huck believes he will find some freedom with Tom Sawyer. Tomis a boy of Hucks age who promises Huck and other boys of the town a lifeof adventure. Huck is eager to join Tom Sawyers Gang because he feelsthat doing so will allow him to escape the somewhat boring life he leadswith the Widow Douglas. Unfortunately, such an escape does not occur. TomSawyer promises much--robbing stages, murdering and ransoming people, kidnaping beautiful women--but none of this comes to pass. Huck finds outtoo late that Toms adventures are imaginary that raiding a caravan ofA-rabs really means terrorizing young children on a Sunday school picnic, that stolen joolry is nothing more than turnips or rocks. Huck isdisappointed that the adventures Tom promises are not real and so, alongwith the other members, he resigns from the gang. Another person who tries to get Huckleberry Finn to change isPap, Hucks father. Pap is one of the most astonishing figures in all ofAmerican literature as he is completely antisocial and wishes to undo allof the civilizing effects that the Widow and Miss Watson have attempted toinstill in Huck. Pap is a mess he is unshaven; his hair is uncut andhangs like vines in front of his face; his skin, Huck says, is white like afishs belly or like a tree toads. Paps savage appearance reflects hisfeelings as he demands that Huck quit school, stop reading, and avoidchurch. Huck is able to stay away from Pap for a while, but Pap kidnapsHuck three or four months after Huck starts to live with the Widow andtakes him to a lonely cabin deep in the Missouri woods. Here, Huck enjoys, once again, the freedom that he had prior to the beginning of the book. Hecan smoke, laze around, swear, and, in general, do what he wants to do.However, as he did with the Widow and with Tom, Huck begins to becomedissatisfied with this life. Pap is too handy with the hickory and Hucksoon realizes that he will have to escape from the cabin if he wishes toremain alive. As a result of his concern, Huck makes it appear as if he iskilled in the cabin while Pap is away, and leaves to go to a remote islandin the Mississippi River, Jacksons Island. It is after he leaves his fathers cabin that Huck joins yetanother important influence in his life Miss Watsons slave, Jim. Priorto Hucks leaving, Jim has been a minor character in the novel--he has beenshown being fooled by Tom Sawyer and telling Hucks fortune. Huck findsJim on Jacksons Island because the slave has run away--he has overheard aconversation that he will soon be sold to New Orleans. Soon after joiningJim on Jacksons Island, Huck begins to realize that Jim has more talentsand intelligence than Huck has been aware of. Jim knows all kinds ofsigns about the future, peoples personalities, and weather forecasting.Huck finds this kind of information necessary as he and Jim drift down theMississippi on a raft. As important, Huck feels a comfort with Jim that hehas not felt with the other major characters in the novel. With Jim, Huckcan enjoy the best aspects of his earlier influences. As does the Widow,Jim allows Huck security, but Jim is not as confining as is the Widow.Like Tom Sawyer, Jim is intelligent but his intelligence is not asintimidating or as imaginary as is Toms. As does Pap, Jim allows Huckfreedom, but he does it in a loving, rather than an uncaring, fashion. Thus, early, in their relationship on Jacksons Island, Huck says to Jim,This is nice. I wouldnt want to be nowhere else but here. This feelingis in marked contrast with Hucks feelings concerning other people in theearly part of the novel where he always is uncomfortable and wishes toleave them. At the conclusion of chapter 11 in The Adventures ofHuckleberry Finn, Huck and Jim are forced to leave Jacksons Island becauseHuck discovers that people are looking for the runaway slave. Prior toleaving, Huck tells Jim, Theyre after us. Clearly, the people are afterJim, but Huck has already identified with Jim and has begun to care forhim. This stated empathy shows that the two outcasts will have asuccessful and rewarding friendship as they drift down the river as thenovel continues.

Charles Dickens was an author who has a common theme in most of his books. Charles Dickens liked to stress, in his books, that the lower class is always higher than the upper class. Another idea is the need for sacrifice. He also had a common place where his novels took place. Most of them took place in an area where there was a cast system.

"Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on February 7, 181, in Portsmouth and spent most of his childhood in London and Kent" (Encarta.com), both of which appear a lot in his novels. He started school at the age of nine, but his education was stopped when his father was imprisoned for debt in 184. He was then forced to work in a shoe polishing factory. He was laughed at for this job his whole life. This can be seen in his book David Copperfield. He shows us once again in this book how hard life was for him and how he grew up in the lower class. In 187 Dickens took a job as a legal clerk. After learning shorthand, he began working as a reporter in the courts and Parliament, perhaps developing the power of precise description that was to make his creative writing so remarkable. It might have been because of this job that he became such a brilliant writer. He received practice from being a reporter, so this may be the reason for most of his work being so remarkable.

The themes of David Copperfield and A Tale of Two Cities can be related by a cast system and by the need for sacrifice. They are both common ideas used in many of Dickens novels.

As one can tell, there is always a comparison between the upper and lower class. Dickens portrays the upper-class as being cruel people who don't care about anything but money and themselves. But in the lower-class, the people are friendlier and they have a better heart than the people of the upper-class. As shown in David Copperfield, David is caring and loves many people. In the same book however, David's stepfather, one from the upper-class, is cruel and does not like David. His stepfather is constantly yelling and beating David. He then sends David to a boarding school. David's mother only marries his stepfather for the money. She knows he does not like David, but she needs the money. This is where there is a need for sacrifice. David's mother must give up David's childhood in order to have a home and food. Here is where Charles Dickens shows us his contrast between the upper and lower class and the need for sacrifice.

The Intrinsic Worth of Growing Older

Our society worships youth. Advertisements convince us to buy Grecian formula and Oil of Olay so we can hide the gray in our hair, and smooth the lines on our face. Television shows feature attractive young stars with firm bodies, perfect complexions, and thick manes of hair. Middle-aged people work out in gyms and jog down the street, trying to delay the effects of aging. Would any person over the age of forty sign with the devil just to be young again? Is aging an experience to be dreaded? Maybe it is un-American to say so, but I believe the answer is "No." Being young is often pleasant and exciting, but being older has very distinct advantages. The advantages of being older are, no longer being obsessed with appearance, having most difficult decisions in the past, and having a better sense of who you are.

When young, people are apt to be obsessed with their appearance. As a teenager I took mega doses of vitamins and worked feverishly to perfect the body I had. I was involved in every sport possible, such as track, basketball, cheerleading, and gymnastics. Pouring all of my time and energy into these sports was an attempt at turning my wiry adolescent frame into some muscular ideal. When I was young I begged and pleaded for the "right" clothes. If my parents did not get them for me, I felt my world would fall apart. How could I go to school wearing some bulky, loose-fitting coat, while everyone else would be wearing tailored leather jackets? I often wonder how my parents tolerated me. However, I now spend all of my energy on my education. I have learned to love my tall wiry frame, and playing sports has become an enjoyable hobby. I enjoy wearing fashionable clothing, but I am no longer a slave to fashion. Now my clothes are attractive, yet easy to wear. Dressing up to go out is no longer for the approval of others, but to make myself happy. Being able to wear clothes that I feel good in regardless to a certain style is a shopping relief.

Being older is preferable to being younger in another way. With many of life's choices still to be made, the critical decisions that confront just starting out are well in the past. When we are young, major decisions await us at every turn. "What college should I attend? What career should I pursue? Should I get married? Should I have children?" These questions are only a few of the issues facing young people. It is no wonder that despite our carefree façade, young people are often confused, uncertain, and troubled by the unknowns of the future. It is ironic to me that with so little wisdom, and so much immaturity adolescents are expected to make life-altering decisions. Maybe this has something to do with all of the turmoil going on with America's youth today. Life-altering decisions are being processed in a youthful mind; however, all she really wants to do is have fun and enjoy being young. Youth is a constant, and at times overwhelming struggle of the mind. While there are several decisions still looming over an adults mind, there is a certain peace in knowing what hard work throughout life has gotten a person. Decisions like, what age to retire at, to invest in stocks for retirement, moving somewhere sunny like Florida, or not ending up in a nursing home, are easier to reach than decisions like, this the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. Being able to look back at the memories you have of life's experiences are warm and pleasant thoughts to have. Being young, and having to wonder what the future will hold is sometimes terrifying.

Abstract

Why study motivation? To state it simple you need to know motivation to be a better leader to accomplish your business goals. Employees are like sheep you need to lead them to accomplish the mission. It is much easier to lead a group of individuals when they have a vested interest to accomplish it. You create that interest through motivation.

The key to a successful organization in many ways is motivation. It is one of the most difficult tasks that a manager faces because everyone is different. The methods that are used to motivate employees must be tailored to fit each one. Every organization should have motivation plans in placed to show how they value employees. Some of the most effective ways for managers to motivate staff include giving praises, recognition and positive feedback. Motivation is the responsibility of all supervisors. The purpose of this paper is to propose a motivation plan that can be used to implement in any organization to build commitment to the companies goals from employees.

Tying in the companies goals together with the employees individual goals is what a supervisor strives to accomplish. To work together towards the organizations goals managers must offer employees something of value that will put the charge in their step. Their main objective should involve increasing performance through self-motivation, rather than having to use external motivation such as conditions of service. Motivation should be built into the organization system so supervisors will have the opportunity to communicate and motivate staff on their performances through evaluations or words of praise. "Managers must be able to recognize individual differences, match people to jobs, use goals and ensure that goals are perceived as attainable, individualize rewards, link rewards to performance, and check the system for equity." (Robbins, 001) The supervisors show employees how to fulfill their needs while accomplishing the goals of the organization. Motivated employees are happy, committed, and productive.

One of the first things that must be done is an assessment of the motivation issue. Management must assess how to motivate the staff and to determine if there are signs of de-motivation. If the assessment shows serious/critical signs of de-motivation, an action plan needs to be implemented. The question that is probably most often asked by managers is "How do I motivate people at work?" To answer that question discusses with the staff on what their work goals are and how they feel it should be accomplished. Constantly provide feedback on what staff has done well and where improvement is needed. Always encourage the staff to express their views on their performance. Continually evaluate the staff's performance throughout the appraisal period rather than focusing on periods where their performance was particularly good or bad. Provide all the tools necessary and consider the training and/or development needs of staff.

Individual basis motivation can be achieved using worthwhile work, power of acknowledgement, and personal credibility. People need to know that what they are doing has a meaning. This can be accomplished by delegating tasks that challenge the skills and abilities of staff. Giving staff full responsibility of a task from start to finish and then let staff know the "why" to a task. Also let the employees know the impact of the result of their work while explaining the company's visions and goals of the organization.

The power of acknowledgement addresses the issue of recognition. A word of encouragement or a sense of respect can go a long way in motivating someone. This power can be used by encouraging the staff and praise them when something is done right. When you see performance improvement recognize quality performance of individual team members and thank them personally and give credit to team members for their assistance to your achievement. Show appreciation for the value of risk-taking even if it ends with mistakes. An employee needs to see that you are behind them.

Personal Credibility deals with supervisors providing an open environment in which employees feel comfortable to make suggestions. When this environment is achieved, loyalty and commitment from employees is achieved. Managers must then personally abide by the rules and laws of the organization, be a role model for team members. A manager needs to be a motivated manager and be brave enough to admit when they are wrong. Speak positively all the time and be organized with a open mind to suggestions and opinions.

Managers have a responsibility to make the environment motivation friendly. This can be done through people. Accomplish this by giving people work that demands their best and opportunities to learn while keeping team members informed of new developments. Encourage problem solving instead of faultfinding disagree, but never say, "you're wrong". Deal with mistakes constructively and be ready to coach team members like recommending training courses for team members. Show you care by going to team members' desk instead of asking them to come to your office when providing feedback.

Motivation is about communication, working together, sharing common goals, knowing one another and helping one another do a more meaningful job. The end results of motivation are employee loyalty and longevity, desired behaviors and performance and employee accomplishments. It is a mental challenge to set your mind for the improvement of staff motivation. The employees depend on us as managers to look out for them.

Do my essay on Ecstasy CHEAP !

Ecstasy use are the results of dehydration and heatstroke. Dancing in a overcrowded environment while taking ecstasy increases your risk to dehydration and heatstroke because ecstasy raises the body's temperature a few degrees and doesn't allow the body to regulate its own temperature. When the body overheats you lose fluid as much as over three litres in hours. Not replacing that fluid loss with water may lead to dehydration. The common symptoms for suffering for head stroke include failure to sweat, cramps in your limbs or back, headaches, fainting, confusion and vomiting.

Ecstasy is a mood enhancer and it also has a mind stimulant effect, which is why users seem to be able to dance all night.

The effects the drug has on the body can include dryness of mouth, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, sweating, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness and restlessness. Ecstasy also increases heart rate and blood pressure.

Ecstasy can give permanent damage brain damage because it causes the serotonin which is stored in the brain to go hard. After taking ecstasy a few days later to user starts feeling depressed. Ecstasy works by releasing large amounts of brain chemical serotonin from curtain brain cells. This creates the warm and fuzzy feelings the user feels while on ecstasy. Releasing such large amount of serotonin stops the brain supply and it takes a while for these supplies to be replenished.

Anna Wood a young Sydney girl died in 15 from complications arising from ecstasy use. She died from hyponatremia which is caused by drinking more water than the body can process. When you drink too much water, it dilutes the sodium in your blood. Without sodium water is released into your body tissues. Your brain can't handle as much swelling as other body tissues, so if it swells too much, it puts pressure on the brain stem, which controls your heart and breathing functions. This condition can be fatal.

They portray thin and beautiful body images as an ideal body for woman and man's body image is considered to be perfect with athletic and muscular body. This shows how much an individual is influenced by media. They show on television program such as "Bay watch" very skinny and beautiful women in order to make people realize this is how they should look. Super models in all the popular magazines have continued to get thinner and thinner. Modeling agencies have been reported to actively pursue Anorexic models. The average woman model weighs up to 5% less than the typical woman and maintains a weight at about 15 to 0 percent below what is considered healthy for her age and height.(Karyn, Leah, Gina, Evelyn, & Melissa). Media makes people think that if they have certain weigh, wear certain clothes than only they will be accepted in society. Barbie dolls have also contributed a lot towards this there body images makes teens think of having same image. Teenager girls think that if they look attractive than they will have good looking boyfriends like Ken.(Karyn, Leah, Gina, Evelyn, & Melissa). Many Studies have shown that while 5 years ago the average model weighed 8% less than the average American woman, todays model weighs % below the national average.(Karyn, Leah, Gina, Evelyn, & Melissa) statistics above prove that what type of models are being used by media this encourages women to be like them even they weigh absolutely correct according to medical terms. This misconception of women by media leads to sever problems like eating disorder. Famous personalities who are or who had been suffering from eating disorders include Tracy Gold, Christina Ricci, Princess Diana, Magali Amadei. It has taken these personalities' years to confess about their eating problems, yet people tend to be inspired and influenced by such celebrities.

Eating disorder is not a joke, once trapped in this disease then the person realizes the mistake that he/she have done. "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fattest one of all"? (if you can…)This sentence has got different meaning for a normal person and a different meaning for an individual who has just got recovered from this awful disease of eating disorder. A normal individual sees the mirror and start comparing them with their favorite T.V stars. They feel terrible and start taking strict actions, which leads to eating disorder. Whereas, an individual who has been recovered from eating disorder he would say "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of all" and it will be you.(if u can…)

Many people enjoy playing sports, in or outdoors. Soccer, a game, can be played both indoors and outdoors. Most sport's rules do not change depending on where they are played, but that is not the case in soccer. The rules change for outdoor soccer to indoor. Some of the changes include the number of players, the pace of the game, and the size and condition of the field.

The number of players in soccer differs greatly when played outdoors and indoors. When soccer is played outdoors there are eleven players on each team on the field at once. One goalie, three defenders, three midfielders, and four Strikers or what is known as forwards. In indoor soccer there are only 6 players on a field at once. A goalie, two defenders, and three forwards or strikers.

The pace of the game in the two respective games is much different. In outdoors, the clock stops for many different reasons, for example injuries, ball going out of bounce, or a player has committed a penalty. Well in the indoor game the clock doesn't stop as much, reason, there is no out of bounce. The clock only stops when a player is injured. Making the indoor game sometimes more exciting than the outdoor game.

Do my essay on indaor outdoor CHEAP !

The next reason that indoor soccer and outdoor soccer are different is because, the size and the look of the playing surfaces. An outdoor soccer field always is played on a grass surface, which is about the size of a football field, but much wider about times as wide. In indoor soccer the field is played on fake grass, which is called artificial turf. Unlike grass it is very hard and the ball bounces much better. Indoor soccer fields are

Small. They are in an oval shape and are similar to a hockey rink but not as wide or long.

So you can see that soccer is both fun to play outdoors and indoors, but have different aspects to both games in size, pace, and the number of people involved in the game.

Hmm... I really dont want to submit an essay. Submitting an essay takes too much time. Besides, you really wouldnt want one of my essays. I dont write about anything interesting. Heres something I wrote in sixth grade.

The food pyramid consists of six groups bread and grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, meats, and extras. The food pyramid was introduced in 1 by the United States Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services. Everything that the human body needs (not including oxygen and sunlight, etc.) comes from the food that we eat. There isn't any one food that provides all of the nutrients that your body needs to grow, be healthy, and energetic. So you must eat a diet that has a variety of foods. Everything that we eat provides energy for building cells and replacing cells that make up our bodies and provide us with energy. There are around twenty important known minerals, vitamins, and hormones that the body needs for a healthy diet. There are two groups of minerals trace minerals, and those found in larger amounts in the body. Minerals help build cells, bones, and can help the nervous system. They also help the body make use of other materials. A few it can store, but many must be constantly replenished.

The dairy group includes milk, yogurt, and cheeses. Milk contains a lot of calcium. Not enough calcium can result in weak bones and osteoporosis. Milk also contains vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, and vitamin D. Vitamin C prevents a disease called scurvy. Scurvy is a disease that causes you to lose your teeth. Another important thing in dairy products is protein. Proteins are constructed of many essential element that the body needs to rebuild itself. Proteins are constructed of amino acids. The human body can manufacture some amino acids, but we must eat protein foods to provide those that the human body cannot make. As you probably know, vitamins are very good for the body. Most people need two to three servings of dairy products each day. However, growing bodies sometimes may need more.

The meats group includes meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts. Meats are an essential part of eating properly. Meats have plenty of protein, which is also essential for the body. Meats are a great source for vitamin B, which helps vision, the mouth, the brain, blood cells, tissues, skin, and the nervous system. Fish and eggs contain vitamin D, which helps bones and teeth. Most nutritionists agree that two to three servings of meat should be eaten every day. However, again, growing bodies usually need more.

Vegetables are great for the body. They contain many vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Fiber helps food get through the digestive system, and without enough, constipation may result. A variety of vegetables is needed to get all the vitamins in all the vegetables. Not enough vegetables can cause weight problems and weak bones. Most people need three to five servings of vegetables per day.

Fredrick Douglass: The Importance of Others

If you order your custom term paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on Fredrick Douglass: The Importance of Others. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Out staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Fredrick Douglass: The Importance of Others, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Fredrick Douglass: The Importance of Others paper at affordable prices!

Fredrick Douglass is a name that will forever be remembered in American history. However, his life was not an easy one and there were many people who played important roles in his upbringing, adolescence, and even adulthood. Whether good or bad, these people shaped Douglass' life immensely and taught him everything he needed to know to survive. Aside from himself, Sophia Auld was extremely important to his story. Many feel that in order to play an important role in a person's life one must have an entirely good heart. However, this is not always true as seen in Sophia Auld.

Douglass came to live with the Auld's at the very tender age of eight. At this time, a child is easily influenced yet also has his/her own idea of what life should be like. At eight Douglass was already feeling the backlash of American slavery at its peak. However, he learned more from Sophia about slavery and freedom alike than he had learned from any other person he had ever, or would ever, know.

Sophia Auld's character was double sided. In the beginning she was a kind and generous human being. Although, as time progressed, she became just another slave owner caring for nothing more than her own happiness and luxury. Nevertheless, it was these characteristics that made Sophia such an importance to Douglass' story.

When Douglass arrived at the Auld household, Sophia was a woman of the "kindest heart and finest feelings". (710) Upon learning that Douglass could not read or write, Sophia immediately began to teach him the alphabet as well as the spelling of short commonly used words. This act of kindness opened innumerable new doors for Douglass. In time, this would become one of the major turning points in his life. Sophia's naïve nature toward slaves allowed Douglass to see that there was more to the world than slaves and slaveholders, that he alone had the power to change his destiny.

If Sophia had continued to teach Douglass to read and write she would not have been of such extreme importance in his life. However, the fact that she abruptly ended his lessons when her husband claimed that giving this knowledge to Douglass would "forever unfit [Douglass] to be a slave" (711) proved to Douglass the importance of the subject. It was here that he learned the power that the white man held over the black man.

The act of ending Douglass' lessons drove Douglass to strive even harder to succeed in mastering the act of reading. Through Mr. Auld's harsh words about a knowledgeable black man and Sophia's actions to obey her husband, Douglass learned more about slavery and freedom than he ever could have from a book or newspaper. Sophia's kind actions and her husband's cruel actions were both extremely beneficial to Douglass' eventual survival. It was in this way that Sophia Auld's character was of utmost importance to the story.

Sophia's teachings, more than anything else, inadvertently showed Douglas that the power to enslave and control others was based upon the amount of knowledge one had obtained during his/her life. From this point on, Sophia Auld was not the caring compassionate person she once was. However, it was now too late. Sophia had already, without knowing it, taught Douglas the "pathway from slavery to freedom". (711) From this point on, Douglass embraced the privilege of knowledge and in turn, took it as far as he could.

Sophia Auld's character was important for many reasons. To begin with, Sophia showed Douglass that not all white people were cold hearted and cruel. Although this appears to be a small achievement, it allowed Douglass to begin his journey from the black outsider to the black equal. Before Sophia, Douglass viewed all whites in the same manner. Even though he had heard good things about Northern whites, Douglass still had to experience it for himself in order to believe anything that was said. By being herself, a compassionate white female, Sophia proved to Douglass that people have the potential to change for better or for worse. In addition, she also proved to Douglass that all people have the ability and desire to love and care for others regardless of race, creed or color.

Furthermore, Sophia's generosity and cruelty alike were extremely important. Without realizing it, Sophia set Douglass on his path to freedom. Before Douglass set foot in Boston he was a sheltered child who knew nothing more than the fact that whites were in charge and he must obey them at all costs. By the time he left, Douglass had an entirely different perspective of life and of people in general. After leaving Boston, Douglass was able to realize that he did not have to abide by any one's rules but his own. He learned more than reading and writing in Boston. He learned that he was his own person, that he had control over his own life, even if it meant that he had to endure more hardships than others may have to. As well, Douglass realized that, although the situation may not be fair and may not always go in his favor, he alone had the ability to shape his future.

Overall, Douglass' time with the Auld's proved to be the first major turning point in his life. It was here that Douglass realized he was a human first and a slave second. And it was here that he realized that he could change this and become a human first and second and never a slave. Sophia was the first kind influence Douglass and ever encountered in his life, even though it was only for a short period of time. However, the time spent in the Auld household proved vital to the outcome of Fredrick Douglass' life. In general, Sophia Auld taught Douglass everything about life, whether intentionally or not. For this reason, she had an extreme importance in the story.

A line of people forms out in the cold. The tired, weary masses huddle together. All have one singular goal on their mind. All are infused with fanatical fervor. All share a common yearning. The door swings open, and at last the new NSync CD is available to a slew of young girls. This is not an uncommon occurrence. The marketing of "music" often does have this effect on impressionable minds. Unfortunately, decent music has not become apparent to the mainstream for over ten years. I intend to prove this to you.

Webster's defines music as "the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity", but does this cold boring statement describe all that music really is? The definition given is inadequate. Music requires emotion, emotions from personal experience or insight. It is for this reason that a majority of music today isn't music at all, such as NSync, Backstreet Boys, or any other vapid, vacuous group of the time. These groups don't write their own material, but rather have the lyrics, and melody handed to them, thus making any song of theirs meaningless.

In addition to the previous fact, the music of the mainstream today hasn't done anything original for the past ten years. The mold of the current mainstream music construct is "verse chorus verse" (allusion to song/quote of Kurt Cobain) or the same old same old. All mainstream music today can be lumped into the following categories, bubble-gum pop, pop-punk, pop-rock, and rap. To the untrained ear, all these sorts may sound totally different, however in reality, they are all strikingly similar. Excluding rap, the lyrics of the other categories are usually along the same line of thinking. And take the chords, term used for note played on all strings of guitar, of any pop-punk song, add a few, and you have a pop-rock song. This has been the case for over ten years.

One could argue that some of these groups have sold unprecedented amounts of albums, thus making them quality. While these groups have sold insane amounts of CDs, it is not due to their music writing or performing capabilities, but rather the marketing from their respective record companies. Think of it logically, choose any five random, somewhat good-looking guys, give them makeovers and personas, teach them a few dance steps and hand them songs and you have the formula for multi-platinum success.

Previously Top 5 Affiliate Myths

1. Affiliate Marketing is Easy to do than Product

Marketing. Look around many of the so called affiliate

marketers. All they try to do is to sell, sell and sell the affiliate

product whereas the visitor will easily identify the

game and wont play to your rules.

.Affiliate Marketing is cutting and pasting the ads

the merchants provide and voila sales start to happen.

No. The visitor is sick and tired of seeing the same

ads everywhere and off he goes.

. You dont need a website to be an affiliate. While it

is true that you really dont need a website, it always

helps to have your own website so that you can try to

capture the email address. Either you get the sale or

at least his email address to follow-up. No website, and

there is no way to get in touch with your visitor ever again.

4. You dont need to own the product you promote. It may

be true for some very big ticket items, normally for

info products, it is better you own the product and try

to presell rather than selling the product.

5. Its free to be an Affiliate Marketer. Its free to

join as an affiliate and if you are not going to invest

your time and effort you may as well start doing

something else worthwhile.

I would add this one

6. Affiliate Marketing is all about chasing people and trying to sell to them.

Wrong! There are many passive ways to sell. Better still, if you would like to invest a bit of effort and time to build a site with interesting contents, you can turn the way around - they actively search for your site and what you promote. In fact, you can earn money with your site using Google Adsense without joining a single affiliate program! Thinking that building a site is too hard for you? You can do it using a site name registration, site developing, site building and promoting system without knowing or learning HTML!

7.Affiliate Programs Dont Make Money

There are people who make lots of money with websites they dont own or operate. I would lke to give just one name as example.

Rosalind Gardener

I would like to be there too soon

After signing a couple of Affiliate programs and trying to send traffic, many come to conclusion that Aff programs dont pay and they are off to doing something else.

Dont commit this mistake. I have done it and left several hundred dollars on the table. Try to find out the conversion rate. If you can find out how many buyers you get for say 100, 1000 visitors, you will be able to find out the conversion rate. Anything above 1% isvery good conversion rate.

May be you should use, SIMA. Duncan will be able to help you. I have not yet used it, but it is recieving rave reviews all across.

Or you should go for a paid Tracking program which runs on its own server. I have very good experience with hypertracker and I would suggest anyone to try it. They even give a 15 day F^ree trial.

Once you have a clear idea, you can continue to promote it or choose a better program.

Since before the human race even began to analyze the habits of living organisms, there has always been the instinct of good and bad, right and wrong, and the concept that every living creature has a bit of both. One of the most morbid criminal acts that is instilled in some of the worse humans is sexually abusing children. While this act cannot be justified by any depth of comprehension, it can be studied, and in some cases, put to an end. In the United States alone, . out of 1000 children are reportedly sexually molested. Considering the thousands of millions of American children, that isnt as remote as it sounds. The physical and emotional effects of child abuse, examined in Child ABuse Pediatrics by Dr. Giardino, are displayed through the Indian child, Turtle, in Barbara Kingsolvers novel, The Bean Trees.

According to Dr. Angelo P. Giardino, Vice President at St. Crhistophers Hospital for Children, there are two main groups of condition an abused child undergoes physical damage, and emotional damage. Irritation, bleeding, bruising and any abnormal discharge are signs of external and internal damage, particularly bleeding. To avoid long-term damage, it is necessary to identify the source of blood or discharge immediately. Emotional damage is a far more typical condition used by others to identify a victim of sexual abuse. Common signs of abuse are depression, substance abuse, eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While no universal shor-term or long-time impact of sexual abuse has been identified, PTSD and depression are the disorders most commonly associated with sexual abuse.(Giardino ).

Both exampels of emotional and physical effects on an abused child are clearly provided in Kingsolvers The Bean Trees with one of the main characters, Turtle. Early on in the book, Turtle is taken into the care of Taylor Greer, the narrator. Taylor soon discovers that Trutle has been sexually abused from bruises and worse (Kingsolver 1). The novel goes on to describe Turtles emotional wounds through her slow development to talk. For a two or three year old, silence is a legitimate PTSD symptom. When Taylor eventually takes Turtle to see the doctor to gain a clearer picture of the dmamage thats been done, X-Rays expose healed fractures and internal tears all over the young childs body. The doctor also explains the concept of failure to thrive(Kingsolver 166) in which a body, when heavily truamatized at a young age, fails to grow and thus eventually stops working. While turtle does not have this part of sexual abuse aftermath, failure to thrive is a serious danger for most pre-toddler or toddler abuse victims.

Through Dr. Giardinos educational pediatrics article, and Kingsolvers example of real life, the effects on the body and mind of a sexual abuse victim have been thoroughly examined. For myself, the concept of sexual abuse towards young children is one of the most morbid human tendencies is practice today, with devastating statistics. To break the mind, as well as the body; hit two birds with one stone, as the fairly disturbing proberb goes; seems to be a power that the human race should not be allowed to wield.

If there's one thing history has taught the rest of the world, it's that the United States of America has the most powerful and dedicated army in the world, capable of defeating any foe it flexes its muscle against. With the help from everyday citizens like you and me, the American military machine can and will make the war on terror a total success.

In this world of high tech surveillance, satellites, and smart bombs terrorists have nowhere to hide. The many country's that do hide and harbor terrorists will see thousands of American Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps soldiers right on their front door steps. At our front door step we stand ready with crack teams of FBI and CIA anti terror units as well as other federal agencies waiting to rollup terrorist cells inside the United States. At our boarders the National Guard, Air National Guard, and Coast Guard are ready to repel any attack.

I know everybody's worried about casualties. And they should be, as they should also remember that this isn't World War Two, Korea, or Vietnam. This is the twenty first century where war is waged at thirty thousand feet from an F-16 or a B-5 Stratofortress with smart bombs and cruise missiles. Our military has now advanced to the point where we don't even need pilots to fly our aircraft and we can shoot cruise missiles from over one thousand miles away. Thus saving and preserving the lives of our fighting men and women. The people we do have on the ground are Special Forces. These crack soldier are the cream of the crop of our military might, used to fighting in the trenches and shadows. But like any war there will be lives lost. It's just a fact of war and a risk we take to defend freedom and preserve our way of life, as we know it. In Afghanistan the most significant part of the operation is that it entailed the fewest war combatant injuries and the least collateral damage of any major military operation in history to date. This was all achieved in the span of two months at the least, making it one of the quickest operations at that.

Not only is the U.S. preserving life and liberty at home, we are doing it abroad also. When we rooted out terrorism in Afghanistan and unthroned the Taliban warlords we also sent food, medicine and protection to the Afghan people already in poverty under Taliban rule. The Afghan people for the first time in their life had the chance to setup their own government so they can share the freedom we enjoy everyday.

St. Thomas Aquinas

St. Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican monk who believed that law mirrored a natural world order made known to humans by their own process of reasoning and by the divine revelation of Christian prophets. This view, along with the influence of Plato and Aristotle, helped Aquinas to develop his own moral theory and philosophy of life. This allowed him to respond to the relationship between natural law and human law which Aquinas put together as this; 'every human law has just so much of the character of law as it is derived from the law of nature. But if in any point it differs from the law of nature, it is no longer a law but a corruption of law '(Aquinas,17).

Aquinas was the most famous exponent of the Natural Law ethic. Aquinas developed Aristotles ideas and argued that the natural purpose of the world is found in God. Humans are free beings and are capable of choosing to follow the natural law of God which is understood through reason. He believed the human purpose was, to reproduce, to learn, to live harmoniously in society and to worship God. Natural law describes not only how things are but how things should be and this happens when things are fulfilling their natural purpose. Aquinas believed human beings were created by God and that each one of us has a particular purpose that we are potentially capable of achieving. He also taught that morality is not primarily based on commands from God but on reason which by its application can raise people to an awareness of morality. Aquinas states that, 'the light of natural reason, whereby we discern what is good and what is evil, which is the function of natural law, is nothing else than an imprint on us of the divine light '(Aquinas, 17). Aquinas also believed that even though an act may be good in itself like giving money to charity, it can be done for wrong reasons like if you are giving money to charity so that you can boast about it to others. He also saw a strong link between morality and happiness as he did not believe that moral life should be something humanity struggles to follow, instead he felt that it should come naturally. Aquinas also thought that it was important to distinguish between four types of laws which are Eternal law(God's entire plan), Divine law(Part of the eternal law known by revelation), Natural law(Part of eternal law humans figure out themselves) and Human law or Positive law(We create to help give precision to the natural law).

All in all, Aquinas, the great theologist and philosopher of his time who followed in the footsteps of Aristotle and Plato, was a naturalist philosopher who viewed the world as being created by God according to a plan that establishes the proper purpose of each thing. As human beings, he states that, 'humans have an intellect to understand the plan and the free will to choose or reject to conform to God's plan' (Aquinas, ), and this was his moral theory. Even though Aquinas unfortunately died from serious illness, he left behind a major influence on modern human rights theories and laws. Aquinas' belief of natural law was able to carry on through many other philosophers after him, proving him to be successful in his teachings and arguments towards the opposing side.

Lady Macbeth was only partially responsible for Macbeth's downfall in that she pressured him into killing Duncan which triggered Macbeth's irreversible decline. However Macbeth himself and his relentless ambition would've been a strong factor in the series of events that lead to his death. On another level though, because of the witches meddlings Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were merely spectators to their own lives as fate (determined by the witches) carried out it's predetermined and unchangable path.

When Macbeth decided not to go ahead with the murder of Duncan, saying, 'We shall proceed no further in this business', it was Lady Macbeth who persuaded him through goading him and questioning his manliness, 'when you durst do it, then you were a man,' to continue with it. She mockingly asked if it was just the drink talking when he suggested it, 'Was the hope drunk wherein you dress'd yourself? Hath it slept since?' She wonders aloud how he can hold his head high, being such coward, '. . and live a coward in thine own esteem . . .' What seemed to be the crux of her argument however was that Macbeth had sworn to kill Duncan and it was not tolerable to go back on his word as Lady Macbeth emphasised this by telling him she would rather have taken her baby, 'pluck'd my nipple from his boneless gums, and dash'd the brains out, had I so sworn as you have to done this,' than go back on her word. She also tells him that if he does not go on his word than his word is untrustworthy so she will not believe him when he tells her he loves her as we see when she says 'from this time, such I account thy love.' It is clear from these many abusive arguments that Lady Macbeth must take a significant portion of the blame for Mabeth murdering Duncan, hence his downfall.

Supernatural evil spirit unsex me

Macbeth was, however was largely responsible for his own decline. Even the witches prophecies can not be held entirely responsible, as Macbeth's over riding ambition existed long before the witches came into the picture. It became apparent that he and Lady Macbeth had even discussed killing Duncan before he met with the witches. We see this when Lady Macbeth says, 'nor time nor place did then adhere,' meaning that when they had planned it earlier they didn't have opportunity but as they did then they should go ahead with it. This could well mean that Macbeth would have murdered Duncan without the prophecies and that the prophecies just acted like a catalyst in matters and totally sealed fate.

The Photographic Essay (Mitchell)

If you order your custom term paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on The Photographic Essay (Mitchell). What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Specify your order details, state the exact number of pages required and our custom writing professionals will deliver the best quality The Photographic Essay (Mitchell) paper right on time.

Out staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in The Photographic Essay (Mitchell), therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your The Photographic Essay (Mitchell) paper at affordable prices! "The text of the photo-essay typically discloses a certain reserve or modesty in its claim to "speak for" or interpret the images; like the photograph, it admits its inability to appropriate everything that was there to be taken and tries to let the photographs speak for themselves or "look back" at the viewer"(516). In being told to take a position on this very controversial issue, I didn't know whether I agreed, disagreed, or both with W.J.T Mitchell's claim that photographs not accompanied by text speak louder than photographs with text accompaniment. Many photographs are accompanied by text or some type of explanation as to what the photograph is about or the story behind it (e.g. museums and art exhibitions), because of this Mitchell's claim would often be looked at as wrong and would arouse many controversial and argumentative questions. When you take a closer look and give deeper thought to the claim you will notice that it is very true and I totally agree with Mitchell. I think Mitchell's claim can be best understood from James Agee and Walker Evans, Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. I agree with Mitchell in his views that photographs with no text allows for a deeper understanding of the photo, for you to link the text and image with your own understanding and that text limits the "reading" of the photograph.

An in-depth understanding of a photograph is the ability to look at what is there and to also look past what is there. What do you think the person in the photograph is going through? What does it represent? How can the photograph relate to you, your life and your experiences? I think that these are just a few questions that should be asked and answered when trying to "read" or gain an understanding of a photograph (your own understanding). Agee and Evans try to get this point across by not providing text with the images so your "reading" of the photograph will not be hindered by text that could and would influence your thought. As Mitchell states, "The photographs are completely separate, not only from Agee's text, but from any of the most minimal textual features that conventionally accompany a photo-essay no captions, legends, dates, names, locations, or even numbers are provided to assist a "reading" of the photographs"(517). In not providing any of these things Evans and Agee make it hard to connect the photographs with the text " it resists the straightforward collaboration of photo and text"(51). I think this resistance is needed and very essential when trying to fully "read" a photograph and understand it.

Personal associations are essential when trying to link photo and text. Because this collaboration is so difficult to achieve the only thing left to do is to try to link them by relating them to one's self and life and also looking at the details of the photograph (e.g. facial expressions, clothing, etc.) and coming up with you own understanding or "reading" of them. As Mitchell states, " The second is the intimate fellowship between the informal or personal essay, with its emphasis on a private "point of view", memory, and autobiography, and photography's mythic status as a kind of materialized memory trace imbedded in the context of personal associations and private "perspectives""(516). What Mitchell likes and what Agee and Evans focus is, is to try and achieve this "reading" without being invasive or intrusive. Many would probably argue that even in trying to let the pictures speak for themselves, the reader would become invasive and intrusive. Although this is true, Agee and Evans try to undercut surveillance by not providing text with the image, which would be totally invasive and intrusive for them to try and explain these people's lives. Evans, Agee and Mitchell believe in no categorizing, pigeonholing, labeling, or judging. As Mitchell states, "what gives us the right to look upon her, as if we were God's spies"(5). I think the resistance of Agee's text and Evans images are meant to deliberately prevent easy collaboration, therefore the linking of image and text is extremely difficult but is not meant to be linked but to stand alone as separate "readings".

What if we were looking at photos with text accompaniment? Would we then be able to fully "read" the photograph? No, the text would strongly influence our thought when trying to understand and relate to the photograph. Mitchell states that " there is the root sense of the essay as a partial, incomplete "attempt", an effort to get as much of the truth about something into its brief compass as the limits of space and writerly ingenuity will allow. Photographs, similarly, seem necessarily incomplete in their imposition of a frame that can never include everything that was there to be, as we say, "taken""(516). I really like that fact that in Agee and Evans, Let Us Now Praise Famous Men they have the photographs in the front without context and when the reader or viewer finally does get to the words or text they are in "Book Two", meaning the photos were "Book One" and they have already "read" them. I also like the fact that Agee and Evans allowed their photographic subjects to pose themselves. I think that photos with text accompaniment limits the "reading" of the photograph and also hinders the "reader's" creativity and critical thinking process.

In conclusion, " The "taking" of human subjects by a photographer (or a writer) is a concrete social encounter, often between a damaged, victimized, and powerless individual and a relatively privileged observer, often acting as the "eye of power", the agent of some social, political, or journalistic institution. The "use" of this person as instrumental subject matter in a code of photographic messages is exactly what links the political aim with the ethical, creating exchanges and resistances at the level of value that do not concern the photographer alone, but which reflect back on the writer's (relatively invisible) relation to the subject as well and on the exchanges between writer and photographer"(515). There is a clear imbalance of power here and I agree with Mitchell because I believe that his theory or views on photographs and text tries to cut back on this imbalance of power.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was my senior year at Memorial high school. There were times of fun and enjoyment. There were times of sadness and disappointment. Nevertheless, they were all of what made up my senior year.

It was the season of autumn, and summer was just ending. We were all coming back for one last year together. Everybody was very enthusiastic about our senior year. It felt so good to know that this was going to be the last year that I would have to go to high school, the last year to have to live at home with mom and dad, and the last year to be kid. The sweetness of victory was very gratifying, for our school's athletics teams enjoyed lots of success. I will always be able to look back at that and smile. I will also be able to reflect on the sorts of fun I had with my friends and fellow classmates throughout the school year.

My senior year may sound like it was all about having fun (I wish!), but there were times when I nor anybody else felt too good. Senior year meant senior classes as well, and these were some of the hardest classes I'd taken. That led to some very difficult work and tests that had to be taken. There were some days when I was simply frustrated with the difficulty of what I was studying. These not-so-good times didn't just occur in the classroom, there also were incidents outside the classroom. For example, cheering for our football team all the way to the state championship at the metrodome only to be disappointed by defeat in a game that many felt our team was the favorite to win.

After reflecting on these good times and bad times of my senior year, I know that they will all be great things to remember. When I come back for class reunions with my former classmates, we will look back at these times that we had shared together. We will see how those experiences in our senior year help us become better people. I will be able to remember how those good and bad times changed my life.
