Hagar Shipley, a strong opinionated woman, demonstrates many assets as well as faults. Her up front and bold attitude towards everyone is a trait in which I admire. Right from the beginning of the book you realize exactly what kind of a woman she is and how she is very stubborn and set in her ways. Hagar was brought up and taught to know what she wanted in life and not let anyone or anything get in her way, even if that would eventually mean her father. Hagar was also brought up to be very self-aware, and to never forget that she was beautiful. Jason Currie was her father and he sent his only daughter to College just so she could learn how to be even more proper then she already was, how to dress as if she had a million dollars, and how to entertain a crowd. She was a well-spoken woman with dignity and class, until she met and married Bram Shipley. Hagar was always looking for ways to go against what people wanted, it was her way of being rebellious. Marrying Bram Shipley is a perfect example of that because it went against everything Hagar's father ever taught her. Jason wanted only the best for his daughter, he hoped that she would marry a doctor or a lawyer. Knowing this Hagar married Bram, a man who had no class and worked on a farm that produced nothing. No matter how many times people told Hagar that Bram was not the man to marry she insisted that he was the man for her and that no one could tell her otherwise. Being stubborn at times is a good thing when its used during a debate or somewhere where your opinion should be concrete, but when it comes to advice about your future being open minded is something to consider. Hagar should have listened to her father and the rest of her family instead of being so prideful and stubborn.

After reading the first four chapters of this book I can only sit back and laugh at how similar I find myself to Hagar. She is a bitter, independent ninety year old woman who really does mean well even of it may not come out that way. Her strength, and determination throughout her life is something to be in awe of. Hagar never shed a tear, while her father hit her, nor did she let the fact that no one from her family showed up to her wedding upset her. She held it all in and realized that life must go on. Throughout my life I was raised to be strong as well. My mother always told me never to cry over spilt milk and to this day I try not too. In life there is no room for babies and people who expect you to feel sorry for them and I think that the reason why I respect Hagar so much is because she doesn't want people to feel sorry for her, she just wants to be in charge of her life and do the things she feels are right. She doesn't depend on a soul, her pride won't allow her to do so. Her sense of responsibility was another trait that I admired as a child she would go to her dads store and watch him and how the business was run. Every day after school she would join him as well. When she became an adult and married Bram her life changed and she realized that she no longer would have the luxury of having household help cleaning up after her and that it had become her job. Hagar had never had to lift a finger in her house while she was growing up, but she knew it had to be done so she took charge and ran the whole house all by herself. Hopefully I live to see the age of ninety and when I do I wouldn't mind being the type of woman that Hagar is. She has the type of personality that I admire in a person for the most part, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book to learn more about her as a person.

U.S. President Jimmy Carter, in the 170s declared an energy crisis, Congress responded with a tax credit to encourage business to turn domestic coal into a substitute for imported foreign oil. Known as Internal Revenue Code Section, the program hands out tax credits for synfuels. Today, the synthetic-fuels tax credit still remains on the books. Companies that manufacturer synfuel use coal fines, dust or ground coal, mixed and soaked with an oily liquid that may include chemicals, binders and additives, to alter the product's chemical composition. They then bake the mixture into briquettes for sale to utilities. The resulting product has the same energy content as regular coal and burns similarly. But its different in one respect The "synthetic coal" (which is really a synfuel) generates a tax credit of about $6 a ton. Some 55 coal-based synfuel plants sprang up to take advantage of the tax credits worth as much as $1 billion a year. Today, 7 plants operate in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia while only four are still located in Western states. Fifteen plants operate in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, while nine are located in Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina.

Personally, After reading this article I was appalled and after doing a little more research it is disturbing to see some of these companies taking these huge tax breaks and paying a lower tax rate than what someone making $5-0,000 dollars a year. What would be interesting to see would to see how much profit one of these companies that takes these tax breaks would make without the tax break, and would some of these companies go bankrupt? Reading more into this topic I also learned that burning coal causes pollution, which is another reason for taxpayers to not be happy with what the government is doing. The government seems to make the rich, richer and th

Comparison between Classical and Contemporary music.

Classical music is known as a serious kind of music whereas Contemporary music is known as "popular", "folk", or "light" kind of music. Classical music is music, which 'must be written down, or at least performable away from its original composer.' and must also 'maintain its ability to communicate and entertain listeners over decades, and even centuries.' (David Hurwitz, 00, Internet resource) Comparing it with Contemporary music, it is found that Contemporary music is often recorded or written down vaguely as long as the major pattern can be recognized. Contemporary music is often played by other musicians where improvisation or rubato occurred most of the time, but Classical music are never improvised. According to Jan Vièar, classical music is also known as 'serious music, independent music, composed (as opposed to improvized) music.' (Prague Academia, 181, Music and its terminological system)

These are the similarities of the two kinds of music. First of all, similar instruments which can be used for both kinds of music are piano, harpsichord, wood wind, brass, string, guitar, vocal and orchestral. It is found that a composer usually composed his or her masterpiece after experiencing certain memorable moment. There was also music that was composed with dedications to their love ones. I grouped these as personal goals as their objectives. Both Classical and Contemporary music are sometimes composed with objective of personal goals.

I found great difference than similarities between Classical and Contemporary music. Classical music is originated somewhere since 1600 and it has gone through a total of 5 periods The Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods whereas earliest records of Contemporary music were found after the existence of Classical music. (Author unknown, Internet article) It is clearly understood that Classical music is categorized by its period. It can also be categorized by the composer's name such as Bach, Schubert, Mozart, etc. It is not categorized by the groove or the rhythm pattern or styles as Contemporary music is. For Classical music, no electrical instrument is used unlike Contemporary music uses a wide range of electrical instruments or digital gadgets to produced the preferred kind of music. The objectives that can be found throughout all the Classical composers are a study of certain skills, techniques or music theory, dance, religious ceremonies, recital, concerts, operas, performance and culture. As Jan Vièar points out 'It is a music which was mostly performed on concert stages and in opera theaters.' (Jan Vièar, 000, EUROPEAN CLASSICAL MUSIC IN TODAY 'S WORLD) Objectives of Contemporary music composers, which differ from the Classical composers', are tests and experiments, broaden the music itself, leisure and entertainment, commercial means, advertisement, therapy, etc.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Comparison between Classical and Contemporary music.

In conclusion, a contemporary music, supposed to be written by Stevie Ray Vaughan (A renowned blues guitarist), might never been heard in most parts of Asia thus the works of this composer, the music, can never be brought through time and place. But Beethoven who was born before Stevie Ray, which are known by almost people all over the world, and yet his masterpiece is shared through time as well as surpassing the obstacles geographically. As Jan Vièar once again voiced out 'Due to the performing art, classical music was enlivened by thousands of new and new concert creations. Later, it was disseminated by the radio, standard records and CDs, videos, and today also the Internet. "Beethoven is alive, because we create Beethoven 's world day by day," After the research, I come to respect and learn to appreciate classical music and proud to play it as well.

Generally, in some of the greatest works of literature, an important character in a novel may be considered evil or immoral on the basis of his actions alone. Such a character is Raskolnikov of Dostoevsky's, Crime and Punishment-- a poverty-stricken young man who had who murdered an old pawnbroker. Despite such an immoral act, Raskolnikov is often viewed by the reader as a sympathetic character due to the manner in which his crime haunted him. Furthermore, he committed acts of kindness which also promote sympathy in the reader.

Raskolnikov's evil can be seen through the nature of pawnbroker's (Alyona Ivanova) murder, as opposed to that of her sister (Lizaveta Ivanova). Alyona's murder was much more brutal that Lizaveta, in that she took several hits with the ax whereas Lizaveta took only one. Therefore, even thought the pawnbroker was already dead, Raskolnikov had so much rage and malicious intentions for her that he continued to strike her

Then he dealt another and another blow

On the other hand, Lizaveta was struck once and murdered only out of necessity as she was unexpectedly home

The axe fell with the sharp edge just on

all the top of the head. She fell heavily at once…

Fear gained ore and more mastery over him,

especially after his second, quite unexpected murder.

The immorality of Raskolnikov's character is evident not only in his committing murder, but also theft. After murdering Alyona, he proceeded to take her jewelry and other valuables

ear-rings, pins…without delay, he began filling

although this crime is much less significant than a murder, it still contributes to the idea that Raskolnikov is an immoral character.

Although the combination of such evil and malicious acts committed by Raskolnikov should spur the reader's great hatred of him, some may actually feel sympathetic toward him. He is an extremely poor young man, who wore rags and did not have enough food. given this information, a reader may feel sorry for Raskolnikov, despite his immoral deeds, because it is often said that those who are so poor are left with very few, if not any choices in life. Therefore, by murdering the pawnbroker and stealing her valuables, he may have been securing his own survival. Furthermore, Raskolnikov committed acts of kindness which may also serve to spur a reader's sympathy. For example, he went out of his way to help a young girl who he thought was going to be taken advantage of by a strange man. Based on his actions alone, Raskolnikov may be considered evil and immoral. However, given his situation and occurrences of contrasting behavior, a reader may react more sympathetically than otherwise expected.

What if for one day, Jesus were to become you? What if for one day, he wakes up in your bed, walks in your shoes, lives in your house, and goes about your usual day? There is one exception however, everything in your life must maintain the same, and nothing can change. Your heart is his; the heart of Christ leads your life. This means that his priorities would take control of your actions. The question you should really ask yourself is, "would people notice a change in your life for that one day?" If your answer is "yes," and people would notice a change, then I think you, and myself, need to evaluate our own lives. Are we doing everything in our power to act just like Jesus, to live the life that he wants us to live? What Max Lucado says in this chapter is extremely profound and I believe it to be very true. He says, "God loves you just the way you are, but he refuses to leave you that way." He wants us to be just like Jesus." He knows we are not just like Jesus but he is trying to help us become more like him. God does not want us to stay the way we are now for the rest of our lives. We need to strive to be just like Jesus.

I know this phrase has gotten really played out lately, but we need to ask ourselves this question in all of our daily situations, "What would Jesus do?" If we did this I am willing to bet a lot of our lives would be altered in more ways than one. For me personally I have notices a huge change in the way I act around my friends and when I am alone. This chapter has given me a new perception on life and the way I am going to live my life. Also, I truly believe that following Jesus and striving to live life the way he wants me to, brings about a peace in my life. I think that this will also be true for anyone and everyone who is willing to try to be just like him.

What is the goal of education? Are teachers really helping students to achieve this goal? The goal of education is to prepare students to be successful in life, and the job of teachers and educators is to lead the student and challenge him. Since teachers are leaders, they may use different methods to teach students; for example they use the banking concept method or the problem-posing method. Analyzing both methods, I realized that the banking concept is not such a good method because it doesn't let the student analyze, the student feels oppressed and they develop a fear feeling against the teacher. Problem-posing is a better method because it allows the students to make their own decisions and it gives students freedom to express their creativity. Combining both, banking concept and problem-posing can lead to a better method so students can learn better, and so they can enjoy the process of education.

I studied my elementary school in a really strict catholic school, it was managed by nuns. They taught us applying the banking concept method. There were forty to fifty girls in each homeroom, and it was hard to deal with each one of the students, and they didn't have the time to get to know each student better. They made us memorize long study guides and questionnaires. The only way to score good grades was memorizing those guides literally. Freire was right when he said "Narration (with the teacher as narrator) leads the students to memorize mechanically the narrated content. Worse yet, it turns them into 'containers,' into 'receptacles' to be filled by the teacher." We didn't analyze at all, we didn't understand what we were memorizing. It was really hard because I would get nervous or anxious during my tests and since I memorize without understanding it was so easy to forget. It also happens that you just learn for a short period of time, because after a few weeks you forget everything.

The banking concept is a method where teachers know everything, and students don't know anything at all. Freire made in his essay "The Banking Concept of Education" describes the characteristics of teachers and students in the banking concept, "the teacher teaches and the students are taught; the teacher knows everything and the students know nothing; the teacher thinks and the students are thought about; the teachers talks and the students listenmeekly; the teacher chooses and enforces his choice, and the students comply." (Page 61). Banking concept makes the teacher job easier, they job is to fill the student mind, and dominate them, they have power and students are weak.

As I grew up, I and started high school, I realized that banking concept is not the better method to teach and definitely not the best method for students to learn. Memorizing with analyzing is not good, especially when you take classes that involve analysis and problem solving exercises. For example in my philosophy class the teacher made us give our opinions and analyze philosophers theories, he didn't want us to learn textually what our book said, he wanted us to explain what we think, and relate those theories with the present, after all those years memorizing it was really hard. Philosophy is one of those classes that you need to memorize but also analyze, you need to memorize names, dates and theories, but you need to understand what you memorize.

Problem-posing in my opinion is a better method to teach and Freire prefers this method over banking concept, "Those truly committed to liberation must reject the banking concept in its entirety, adopting instead a concept of women and men as conscious beings, and consciousness as consciousness intent upon de world." (Page 65). In this quote Freire expresses that the only way that people can become educated is to become thinkers, to really analyze what you read. The real purpose of reading and studying is not just for getting good grades, the purpose is to read and achieve knowledge.

I can still remember how I felt in elementary school, the classroom was so neat and quiet, we could only hear the loud voice of our teacher, and we never dare to interrupt them because we were afraid. The feeling of fear made us insecure. They made us feel inferior because they thought they knew everything and we didn't .They were always right and we were always wrong; even once my social studies teacher yell at us and said "I'm wise, you are stupid". We were oppressed, we didn't have chance to develop our own ideas. We were dominated by our teachers. As a result of this method, we became lazy students. Freire said "The oppressed are regarded as the pathology of healthy society, which must therefore adjust these 'incompetent and lazy'." (Page 61). This is a true statement, because instead of researching and being curious, we adapt only to what the teacher said. We lacked in creativity and we lost our critical faculties.

In high school teachers were more opened minded, they were more understanding. Students had freedom to express themselves. As Freire explains, " The studentsno longer docile listenersare now critical co-investigators in dialogue with the teacher. The teacher presents the material to the students for their consideration, and re-considers her earlier considerations as the students express their own. In high school teachers implement the problem-posing method, and this is a big change in the life of the student, they talk openly with the teachers and students lost that fear feeling, they don't feel oppressed anymore.

To manage the flow of human resources within organizations, some large and prestigious Japanese firms have adopted the policy of "lifetime employment" (Fisher et al, 10). There have never been any official rules concerning implementation of lifetime employment, but there has been a convention of long-term employment among the large corporations. It is based on the concept that if an employee devotes his life to his company, the company will in return provide him with a guarantee of lifelong employment, housing and other things to take care of his needs. In a sense, this commitment means that the employee ceases to be an individual and becomes a part of the company (Osamu, 15). Fisher et al (10) found the employees covered by this policy comprise to 0 percent of the full-time work force. Many are white-collar and some are blue collar workers. They are guaranteed job security from the time they hired-upon graduation-until they reach the retirement age of fifty-five.

Why do the firms adopt the lifetime employment?

Firstly, one of the important reasons to adopt the lifetime employment system is the system which provides certain categories of staff with employment that lasts throughout their working life (Beardwell & Holden 17). Once employed by one company, an employee might expect to work uninterruptedly until retirement age in the knowledge and expectation that work, training and, quite often, housing and education for dependants would be provide. These companies have recruited at graduate-level and as an employee you have often experienced an annual wage increase, more or less automatic promotion with age and it has been highly unlikely to be dismissed because of a recession. As a result of this people have often identified strongly with their company and stayed with the same company for a long time, since they have not benefited from changing jobs. The system has thus been mutually beneficial.

Secondly, another important reason is the lifetime employment is the desire of Japanese employers to inhibit the mobility of highly trained workers. For instance, if an employee wants to resigns from a major company, he has to seek a lower-paying position at a small company or join a foreign-owned enterprise doing business. That means the employee lost his status and would get a low salary. Therefore, the mobility almost exits.

I went to the art museum and I really enjoyed it. I saw the art works as much as I could even though it was my third time; I think it's something that you can never get bored.

In the art museum there was a statue at the entrance, which was showing the multi color culture of Denver, yellow, white, and black race. The building itself is a 8-sided, sculpture and designed by Gio Ponti of Italy (old roman) in collaboration of Denver. The works were the largest and most comprehensive collection of world art, including original prints, painting, sculpture, and furniture. The painting and sculpture galleries feature, Native American, modern American, Asian, European, Colombian, and Western artists. I started from the seven floor to the first one. 7th floor was art of American west, it was basically showing the endless plains, high vast mountain ranges, cattle drives, soldiers, and the ways they survived. It was also showing figure of mystery and symbols of vanishing cultures, like Indians.6th floor was art of European & American art, which is my favorite. There were works of Renaissance artists, and burger collection British painting. Renaissance artists established such an enduring

tradition of portraits religious and mythological

narratives which was lasted for five centuries. One of my favorite work of art is "three young girls" by William Larkin, oil on panel. The 5th floor was Asian art. It had different sections of Buddhism, India, Japan, and Middle East. In Chinese and japans section I thought the calligraphy was really interesting. In Indian section they had these three statues of their Gods with the name of Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu, which was really interesting.

In the Middle East section we had lots of beautiful Persian, and Turkish rugs. We had the old door of the mosque, and Moslem's Mehrab, which is the position of their leader prayer. There was also an interesting Iranian old astrology book, which was easy for me to read, and I got amazed at the stuff that I read. The 4th floor was Colombian art. There was lots of jewelry, and their paintings were showing the main subject of that time, which was the Sun.

The rd floor was art of Native Americans. The painting was about many different textures, like their horses, tents, animals, and weather. They make lots of beautiful stuff with feathers, which shows the spirit of them, cause no

body told them to make these for money, it's just their

Soul. They had respect for beauty. The paintings also show the stuff like how many children they had, and different seasons of the year. The nd floor was mostly about furniture. There was these really funny looking chairs, and one of the oldest typing machines which was really interesting comparing to today's computer keyboards. The 1st floor was sort of new painting, which I didn't like that much. At last by describing all of these different works of art, we can see our world in a new manner, a manner of details, and to see environment around us with careful looks. It helps us to be more realistic, which allow us to see beyond the usual.

Dams can provide many benefits such as water supply, flood control, hydroelectric power, fishing and recreation. However, dams can also be a great threat to the safety and well being of downstream property and people if they are not properly constructed or maintained.

Dams' primary reason of being built is to provide water for irrigation and hydropower. Although their efficiency if nowhere near as high as most would think. They only supply about 4% of our region's low priced electric power. It makes one think is 4% of our low priced electric power more important than the environment the dam kills and even the living species within this environment? ()

There are many disadvantages to building dams. Generally dams

Ø deplete natural settings

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Effects of Dams on Our Enviornment

Ø flood the spawning grounds of fish

Ø inhibit the seasonal migration of fish

Ø threaten and endanger some species of fish and mussels

Ø flood archaeological sites or ancestral burial grounds

Ø can foster diseases if unkempt (6)

Dams cause the deaths of many young fishes, especially salmon migrating downstream after hatching. These youngsters are susceptible to predators and nitrogen gas bubble disease caused by the dam. This in turn makes it much harder for salmon to reproduce, keeping the population in good standing. Dams can easily reduce the size of the salmon community. (1)

Not only do they affect animals but they can affect us as well. They can displace us when they are built, forcing us to move from our homes. Dams can also affect our beaches, which many enjoy; by trapping the sediment we are starving the beaches of a sediment source.

An example of a particular dam and it affects would be the Cougar Dam on the McKenzie River. About a year ago the dam was undergoing a fix up, involving lowering the level of water in the reservoir. For months the river had become a muddy mess. It affected everybody, specifically those who would normally take advantage of the trout fishing season. Normally people would be reeling in 0 to 40 trout a day but many had to travel to different rivers to fish. Grocery store owners experienced a decline in sales, close to $10,000 in one month. (5)

Not only did this affect the people but the water now flowing into the river is eroding the banks, cutting through the mud. The fish and other wildlife weren't directly harmed, but they may be affected by the affect it has on the bugs. The bugs are dying which the fish rely on during the winter, which will in turn kill the fish. (5)

Another example of how dams affect the environment around it is the in the Snake River. Wild Salmon have been returning to the river less and less each year. Breaching the dam has become an option. Breaching the dams would restore endangered wild salmon, return traditional sites and fisheries to Indian tribes and improve water quality. Many argue that the breaching of dams will result in an enormous loss in jobs. Yes, jobs will be lost but not forever. Only 711 jobs would be lost within Washington, Oregon and Idaho (where the Snake Dams are located). Statistically half will find replacement jobs in less than eight week. The consequences may look dreadful but they are short-lived. ()

Breaching the dam will result in a brighter future for generations to come to enjoy the river and the salmon and the life it brings back to the Snake River.

Another example of an insufficient hydroelectric dam would be in Hawaii. Hydropower depends on a reliable flow of water to produce electricity. In Hawaii the flow is never constant therefore the efficiency of the dam would fluctuate. Hawaiians worry that the dams will flood environmentally sensitive areas and historic sites. They also fear that the reduction of the amount of water flowing downstream will result in damage of plants and animals that live in and around the stream. These fears are understandable and inevitable for these Hawaiians. ()

Dams are made for all the right reasons, to better mankind, to help us become a more energy efficient nation. Harming species, destroying land, and killing fish with the turbines are just risks that we must take. No. I refuse to believe that killing wildlife and destroying our environment is necessary for our survival. Conserving our environment and helping nature's children is what we need for survival. Our environment is our home, no one wants to see a huge cement dam where there used to be trees and animals living together. If dams weren't so destructive then there would be a lot more then there are. Dams are obviously bad or else it wouldn't be such a controversial issue. We must save our fish and our river banks and stop building dams.

According to Robert Feldman, Essentials of Understanding Psychology (Third Edition). Identity is the distinguishing character of an individual who each of us is, what our roles are, and what we are capable of. Eriksos (15). Physocosial theory of development, the most important task of adolescence is to resolve the crisis of identity versus role confusion. Psychosocial development encompasses people understanding of themselves, (Erikson 16).

Identity is developed bu using ones own set of values and social behaviour. Thge attempt to discover who I am, what are my strengths, what is special and unique about me and what kind of role I am best suited to play for the rest of my life. However, this doesnt generally occur before, one experiments with a variety of values and social behaviour - often to the disapproval on parents.

Erikson summarizes identity development into eight stages. Trust versus mistrust, Autonomy versus shame and doubt, initative versus guilt, industry versus inferiority, identity versus role-confusion, intimacy versus isolation, Generatity versus stagnation and Ego-integrity versus despair.

The different stages occur from birth trough late adulthood. According to Erikson, it is of paramount importance that one realizes or masters a particular stage before he moves on as this will help him to reach self-Actualization.

Growing up in an extended family there was this security that I felt knowing that there was always someone there for me. There was feeling of comfort in my immediate surrounding. This gave me the confidence I needed to do all there was that I could do. I wasnot afraid to fail because I knew that I would not be penalized but rather instructed on the correct steps to mastery.

My family values education, this gave me the motivation to do my best in school. Reason being that, if there was ever something I was not clear about I culd always take it home and I would get the necessary help to clearup my misunderstanding. Also, the fact that this great value was placed on education my mother would always maintain a close relationship with all my lecturers. Thus giving me the confidence I neededto have a open relationship with them.

This education value gave me the drive to succeed. I would always wantto beon top of my class, therefore, one could always find me doing my own private reading. I would always ask questions about current affairs, things I hear on the news and always family conversation.

Another inportant factor in my life was religion. Growing up in a christian home I waould always believe there is not anything that I could not overcome with God and if there was anything going wrong in my life then I would know that it was ordained by him. In that, God had made me a promise that what ever happens to me is ordained by him and it is for a reason, therefore I would alwayslook for the good in all my bad experiences and then capitalize on it.

There are days when I would cry but as he says tears are a language that he understands. I have come to realize that no one is perfect therefore I will make mistakes but what couynts is how I move on fro mmy mistakes.

Sacco and Vanzetti The Breakdown of the Legal System

Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were viewed by the American public as anarchists and radicalists. When these men were on trial for murder, the people involved in the case viewed them this way as well. Sacco and Vanzetti were fighting for their lives against people like Webster Thayer, the presiding judge of the case, and Fredrick Katzmann, the prosecutor who saw these men as the American public did. Because everyone, even people involved in the case, only paid attention to their political views and not evidence, Sacco and Vanzetti were convicted not because they were guilty of murder, but because they were guilty of having radical views.

If the jury had looked only at the evidence, neither Sacco nor Vanzetti would have been convicted (Montgomery ). On April 1, 10, Sacco and Vanzetti were with a man named Ferruchio Coacci, who had a warrant out for his arrest and deportation. Because Sacco and Vanzetti were with him on the day he was detained, they were arrested as well. On that fateful day, Sacco had a .-caliber gun on his person, and Vanzetti had four shotgun shells. A few weeks before they were arrested, there was a double homicide in which one victim was killed by a .-caliber bullet and the other by a shotgun. Because of this fact, the police became suspicious and began interrogations (Montgomery 7).

The interrogations Sacco and Vanzetti were put through were very grueling, and both men, because of their poor knowledge of English, were often confused about what they were being asked. With no lawyer present, the police easily made the men appear guilty. Due to these interrogations, the case went to trial (Montgomery ), during which the defense showed that the gun found on Sacco and the shells found on Vanzetti were not those used in the murders, and that each man had an alibi (Montgomery 11-4). "[The prosecutor's] case was based primarily on consciousness of guilt"(Davidson/Lytle 4). Again, because of their poor command of the English language, both men were often made to look like fools while on the stand (Montgomery 18). Most historians generally agree this is the reason for Sacco and Venzetti's conviction.

Fate plays a huge part in bringing Romeo and Juliet together and causing their untimely deaths. If Romeo and Juliet never met the night of the Capulet's party they would not have fallen in love. The feuding between the Montague's and the Capulet's complicates the love between Romeo and Juliet. Because of the pressure on Juliet to marry Paris, she is forced to make a plan that leads to her death. If none of these events were to take place, Romeo and Juliet may not have died the way they did.

The night of the Capulet's party and Romeo and Juliet's first meeting is essential to their story. If Romeo never went to the party, he and Juliet may have never met. As Romeo sees Juliet for the first time he says, "Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!/ For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night" (I.v.51-5.). This statement shows that Romeo is truly in love with Juliet, which will ultimately lead to their deaths. When Romeo and Juliet first meet, they do not know that they are from feuding families. After Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague, she says, "My only love sprung from my only hate!/ Too early seen unknown, and known too late!/ Prodigious birth of love it is to me, That I must love a loathed enemy" (I.v.17-140). By saying this, Juliet expresses that even though Romeo is an enemy, she is already in love with him which leads to their relationship. Shortly after their meeting, Romeo and Juliet are already serious about their relationship, which will later cause them to go to great lengths for each other. When Romeo is outside Juliet's window after the party she states, "Three words, dear Romeo…throughout the world" (II.ii.14-148). In this quote, Juliet is expressing her

desire to marry Romeo. The night of the party is an essential event that leads to Romeo and Juliet falling in love and also their deaths.

Do my essay on Outside Influences that affect Romeo and Juliet's Relationship CHEAP !

The feuding between the Capulet's and Montague's has an enormous effect on Romeo and Juliet's relationship. Tybalt's death is a direct effect of this ancient rivalry. When the Prince is thinking of Romeo's punishment for killing Tybalt, he decides, "And for that offense/ Immediately we do exile him hence" (III.i.180-181). Romeo's banishment makes matters worse for Romeo and Juliet because he must live in Mantua while Juliet remains in Verona. As a result of their quarreling families, Juliet and Romeo must keep their love a secret. Because Lady Capulet does not know that Juliet is already married, she tells Juliet one night, "Marry, my child, early next Thursday morn/ The gallant, young and noble gentleman/ The County Paris, at Saint Peters Church/ Shall happily make thee there a joyful bride" (III.v.11-116). If the two families were not feuding, Romeo and Juliet could be open about their relationship and there would be no demands for Juliet to marry Paris. The families' rivalry not only affected Romeo and Juliet's love but also lead to their deaths. At the end of the story as the Prince is speaking to Capulet and Montague, he says "Where be these enemies…All are punished" (V.iii.1-5). In this quote the prince is saying that their hate is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If these two families were at peace, Juliet and Romeo could live their lives together happily without all the violence and death.

The pressure on Juliet to marry Paris forces her to develop a plan involving a potion that will help her fake death, but ends up leading to her real death. Juliet feels so strongly about not marrying Paris that she threatens to kill herself if the Friar can not think of a solution. The Friar tells Juliet, "Hold, then…the acting it" (IV.ii.8-10). His plan involves Juliet drinking a potion that will make her appear dead until she wakes up

Fargnoli

two days later so she and Romeo can start their life together. Capulet is so eager for Juliet to marry Paris that he ends up moving the date of the wedding up a day. "Send for the county; go tell him of this/ Ill have this knot knit up to-morrow morning." When Capulet makes this decision, he further complicates Juliet's plan because it does not leave enough time for the Friar's assistant to inform Romeo about it. Since Romeo's servant Balthasar reaches Mantua before the Friar's messenger, Romeo believes that Juliet is dead. Romeo returns to Verona to see Juliet for the last time in her tomb and speaks his last words, "Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight" (V.i.4). When Juliet wakes up to find Romeo dead, she does not want to live anymore and kills herself with his dagger. Juliet being hurried into marriage with Paris ends up being an extreme factor in the death of her and Romeo.

Numerous events take place in Romeo and Juliet that end up affecting the relationship between the two lovers and ultimately leading to their deaths. The pressure placed on Juliet to marry Paris causes her to develop a plan that ends up going tremendously wrong and resulting in her and Romeo's deaths. The feuding between the Capulet's and Montague's causes the need to keep Romeo and Juliet's love a secret and leads to Romeo's banishment. The night of the Capulet's party where Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time is an essential part of their falling in love. Fate obviously plays an enormous role in the love and death of Juliet and Romeo.

v They are contemplating a new phase of the company's financing and development.

The values of a play's characters and the society in which they live may be revealed through scenes of social occasions. Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" includes one such scene- the party of Liuboff Andreievna Ravensky. This event brings together several characters in the play and offers an opportunity for the reader to asses their values. The scene contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole in that it reveals important characterization.

One character whose values become evident in the party scene is Liuboff, the hostess. The reader is informed about Liuboff's character through its contrast with another- Peter Trofimoff, with whom she has a disagreement. The two differ with regard to the value of love, as well as that of the past. For example, while Liuboff embraces love and all that it entails, Trofimoff believes that he is above it

As if I'd ever given her grounds

to believe I'd stoop to such

Custom writing service can write essays on Cherry Orchard

vulgarity! We are above love.

Furthermore, Trofimoff has difficulty comprehending Liuboff's disability to let go of the past. Again, the two characters conflict in their values and it allows for insight into Liuboff's mind

What truth? You see where truth is,

and where falsehood is, but I seem

to have lost my sight and see nothing.

Liuboff is attached to her memories and not ready to give that up. She has difficulty facing reality, and is comforted by the falseness that may surround her.

Firce is another character who reveals a significant value during the party in Act III. His feelings regarding social hierarchy become evident when Firce says

At hour balls some time ago,

generals and barons and admirals

used to dance, and now we send

for post office clerks and the

stationmaster, and even they

come reluctantly. I'm very weak.

Here, Firce is saddened by the evolution of the social order over time. the party, which was once an exclusively upper-class event is now even inadequate for the lower class. This is symbolic of the fall of the aristocracy of Russian society in the play.

Based on what was said by important characters in Act III of the "The Cherry Orchard," readers are able to appreciate the contribution to the entire play. Through Firce's character, the collapse of the Russian elite is focused upon. This feeds in perfectly with the play in terms of its symbolism, which is also portrayed through the selling of the Cherry Orchard to a former slave. The social order has completely changed and not without greatly influencing the lives of the characters.

Liuboff's attachment to the past and her memories further supports the play's conflict by showing how she is being affected by the fall of the elite class. Her inability to face her fate relates to Firce's acknowledgement of the same situation. The irony in such events contribute to the overall depiction of the antagonist in "The Cherry Orchard"-- not a person, but rather the gloom consuming the lives of the individuals in the play.

Each character in The Crucible have thier own unique personality that adds wonderfully to the play. The story takes place in Salem, Mass. in 16 during the Salem Witch Trials. Arthur Miller uses the characters John Proctor, Abigail Williams, and John Hale to illustrate very depictively the chaos of Salem, Mass during the witch trials.

John Proctor is a good, honest, God-fearing man with one fault-adultry. John Proctors lost for Abigail Williams led to an affair that Abigail took serious. John Proctor knows of his wrong doing and cant forgive himself of it. He learns of Abigails psycological rampage of the townand of the accusation of his wife, Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft. He knows of all the deciet and the lies and the only way to save his wifes life is to admit commiting adultry. He tries every other way to get his wife pardoned but in the end the confession is not even enough. He is accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. Judge Danforth and Hanforth offer to let Proctor go if he signs a written document of his confession. Because he cannot have his reputation and dignity be stained by a false charge, he takes his death with pride and honor, and John Proctor would not have had it any other way. Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feetof them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name! (1118)

Abigail is a kuniving, ruthless, jealous woman. She is a orphaned child and not well-respected in the small social ladder of Salem. She has had an affair of John Proctor and every night she longs for him though lust not love. Ever since she was caught dancing in the woods, she had been controlling everyone to everything. She instills fear into her friends and manioulates them through fear for their life. And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. (1044) She uses this situation get Elizabeth Proctor out of the picture so their would be no one to get in the way of them. Because she has the Voice of God, she sends 1 people to their deaths, without feeling any kind of guilt or remorse. Her entire motive throughout the play is hatred, envy, and revenge.

Mark Twains The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel about a young boys coming of age in the Missouri of the mid-1800s. Themain character, Huckleberry Finn, spends much time in the novel floatingdown the Mississippi River on a raft with a runaway slave named Jim.Before he does so, however, Huck spends some time in the fictional town ofSt. Petersburg where a number of people attempt to influence him. Before the novel begins, Huck Finn has led a life of absolutefreedom. His drunken and often missing father has never paid muchattention to him; his mother is dead and so, when the novel begins, Huck isnot used to following any rules. The books opening finds Huck living withthe Widow Douglas and her sister, Miss Watson. Both women are fairly oldand are really somewhat incapable of raising a rebellious boy like HuckFinn. Nevertheless, they attempt to make Huck into what they believe willbe a better boy. Specifically, they attempt, as Huck says, to sivilizehim. This process includes making Huck go to school, teaching him variousreligious facts, and making him act in a way that the women find sociallyacceptable. Huck, who has never had to follow many rules in his life, finds the demands the women place upon him constraining and the life withthem lonely. As a result, soon after he first moves in with them, he runsaway. He soon comes back, but, even though he becomes somewhat comfortablewith his new life as the months go by, Huck never really enjoys the life ofmanners, religion, and education that the Widow and her sister impose uponhim. Huck believes he will find some freedom with Tom Sawyer. Tomis a boy of Hucks age who promises Huck and other boys of the town a lifeof adventure. Huck is eager to join Tom Sawyers Gang because he feelsthat doing so will allow him to escape the somewhat boring life he leadswith the Widow Douglas. Unfortunately, such an escape does not occur. TomSawyer promises much--robbing stages, murdering and ransoming people, kidnaping beautiful women--but none of this comes to pass. Huck finds outtoo late that Toms adventures are imaginary that raiding a caravan ofA-rabs really means terrorizing young children on a Sunday school picnic, that stolen joolry is nothing more than turnips or rocks. Huck isdisappointed that the adventures Tom promises are not real and so, alongwith the other members, he resigns from the gang. Another person who tries to get Huckleberry Finn to change isPap, Hucks father. Pap is one of the most astonishing figures in all ofAmerican literature as he is completely antisocial and wishes to undo allof the civilizing effects that the Widow and Miss Watson have attempted toinstill in Huck. Pap is a mess he is unshaven; his hair is uncut andhangs like vines in front of his face; his skin, Huck says, is white like afishs belly or like a tree toads. Paps savage appearance reflects hisfeelings as he demands that Huck quit school, stop reading, and avoidchurch. Huck is able to stay away from Pap for a while, but Pap kidnapsHuck three or four months after Huck starts to live with the Widow andtakes him to a lonely cabin deep in the Missouri woods. Here, Huck enjoys, once again, the freedom that he had prior to the beginning of the book. Hecan smoke, laze around, swear, and, in general, do what he wants to do.However, as he did with the Widow and with Tom, Huck begins to becomedissatisfied with this life. Pap is too handy with the hickory and Hucksoon realizes that he will have to escape from the cabin if he wishes toremain alive. As a result of his concern, Huck makes it appear as if he iskilled in the cabin while Pap is away, and leaves to go to a remote islandin the Mississippi River, Jacksons Island. It is after he leaves his fathers cabin that Huck joins yetanother important influence in his life Miss Watsons slave, Jim. Priorto Hucks leaving, Jim has been a minor character in the novel--he has beenshown being fooled by Tom Sawyer and telling Hucks fortune. Huck findsJim on Jacksons Island because the slave has run away--he has overheard aconversation that he will soon be sold to New Orleans. Soon after joiningJim on Jacksons Island, Huck begins to realize that Jim has more talentsand intelligence than Huck has been aware of. Jim knows all kinds ofsigns about the future, peoples personalities, and weather forecasting.Huck finds this kind of information necessary as he and Jim drift down theMississippi on a raft. As important, Huck feels a comfort with Jim that hehas not felt with the other major characters in the novel. With Jim, Huckcan enjoy the best aspects of his earlier influences. As does the Widow,Jim allows Huck security, but Jim is not as confining as is the Widow.Like Tom Sawyer, Jim is intelligent but his intelligence is not asintimidating or as imaginary as is Toms. As does Pap, Jim allows Huckfreedom, but he does it in a loving, rather than an uncaring, fashion. Thus, early, in their relationship on Jacksons Island, Huck says to Jim,This is nice. I wouldnt want to be nowhere else but here. This feelingis in marked contrast with Hucks feelings concerning other people in theearly part of the novel where he always is uncomfortable and wishes toleave them. At the conclusion of chapter 11 in The Adventures ofHuckleberry Finn, Huck and Jim are forced to leave Jacksons Island becauseHuck discovers that people are looking for the runaway slave. Prior toleaving, Huck tells Jim, Theyre after us. Clearly, the people are afterJim, but Huck has already identified with Jim and has begun to care forhim. This stated empathy shows that the two outcasts will have asuccessful and rewarding friendship as they drift down the river as thenovel continues.

Charles Dickens was an author who has a common theme in most of his books. Charles Dickens liked to stress, in his books, that the lower class is always higher than the upper class. Another idea is the need for sacrifice. He also had a common place where his novels took place. Most of them took place in an area where there was a cast system.

"Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on February 7, 181, in Portsmouth and spent most of his childhood in London and Kent" (Encarta.com), both of which appear a lot in his novels. He started school at the age of nine, but his education was stopped when his father was imprisoned for debt in 184. He was then forced to work in a shoe polishing factory. He was laughed at for this job his whole life. This can be seen in his book David Copperfield. He shows us once again in this book how hard life was for him and how he grew up in the lower class. In 187 Dickens took a job as a legal clerk. After learning shorthand, he began working as a reporter in the courts and Parliament, perhaps developing the power of precise description that was to make his creative writing so remarkable. It might have been because of this job that he became such a brilliant writer. He received practice from being a reporter, so this may be the reason for most of his work being so remarkable.

The themes of David Copperfield and A Tale of Two Cities can be related by a cast system and by the need for sacrifice. They are both common ideas used in many of Dickens novels.

As one can tell, there is always a comparison between the upper and lower class. Dickens portrays the upper-class as being cruel people who don't care about anything but money and themselves. But in the lower-class, the people are friendlier and they have a better heart than the people of the upper-class. As shown in David Copperfield, David is caring and loves many people. In the same book however, David's stepfather, one from the upper-class, is cruel and does not like David. His stepfather is constantly yelling and beating David. He then sends David to a boarding school. David's mother only marries his stepfather for the money. She knows he does not like David, but she needs the money. This is where there is a need for sacrifice. David's mother must give up David's childhood in order to have a home and food. Here is where Charles Dickens shows us his contrast between the upper and lower class and the need for sacrifice.

The Intrinsic Worth of Growing Older

Our society worships youth. Advertisements convince us to buy Grecian formula and Oil of Olay so we can hide the gray in our hair, and smooth the lines on our face. Television shows feature attractive young stars with firm bodies, perfect complexions, and thick manes of hair. Middle-aged people work out in gyms and jog down the street, trying to delay the effects of aging. Would any person over the age of forty sign with the devil just to be young again? Is aging an experience to be dreaded? Maybe it is un-American to say so, but I believe the answer is "No." Being young is often pleasant and exciting, but being older has very distinct advantages. The advantages of being older are, no longer being obsessed with appearance, having most difficult decisions in the past, and having a better sense of who you are.

When young, people are apt to be obsessed with their appearance. As a teenager I took mega doses of vitamins and worked feverishly to perfect the body I had. I was involved in every sport possible, such as track, basketball, cheerleading, and gymnastics. Pouring all of my time and energy into these sports was an attempt at turning my wiry adolescent frame into some muscular ideal. When I was young I begged and pleaded for the "right" clothes. If my parents did not get them for me, I felt my world would fall apart. How could I go to school wearing some bulky, loose-fitting coat, while everyone else would be wearing tailored leather jackets? I often wonder how my parents tolerated me. However, I now spend all of my energy on my education. I have learned to love my tall wiry frame, and playing sports has become an enjoyable hobby. I enjoy wearing fashionable clothing, but I am no longer a slave to fashion. Now my clothes are attractive, yet easy to wear. Dressing up to go out is no longer for the approval of others, but to make myself happy. Being able to wear clothes that I feel good in regardless to a certain style is a shopping relief.

Being older is preferable to being younger in another way. With many of life's choices still to be made, the critical decisions that confront just starting out are well in the past. When we are young, major decisions await us at every turn. "What college should I attend? What career should I pursue? Should I get married? Should I have children?" These questions are only a few of the issues facing young people. It is no wonder that despite our carefree façade, young people are often confused, uncertain, and troubled by the unknowns of the future. It is ironic to me that with so little wisdom, and so much immaturity adolescents are expected to make life-altering decisions. Maybe this has something to do with all of the turmoil going on with America's youth today. Life-altering decisions are being processed in a youthful mind; however, all she really wants to do is have fun and enjoy being young. Youth is a constant, and at times overwhelming struggle of the mind. While there are several decisions still looming over an adults mind, there is a certain peace in knowing what hard work throughout life has gotten a person. Decisions like, what age to retire at, to invest in stocks for retirement, moving somewhere sunny like Florida, or not ending up in a nursing home, are easier to reach than decisions like, this the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. Being able to look back at the memories you have of life's experiences are warm and pleasant thoughts to have. Being young, and having to wonder what the future will hold is sometimes terrifying.

Abstract

Why study motivation? To state it simple you need to know motivation to be a better leader to accomplish your business goals. Employees are like sheep you need to lead them to accomplish the mission. It is much easier to lead a group of individuals when they have a vested interest to accomplish it. You create that interest through motivation.

The key to a successful organization in many ways is motivation. It is one of the most difficult tasks that a manager faces because everyone is different. The methods that are used to motivate employees must be tailored to fit each one. Every organization should have motivation plans in placed to show how they value employees. Some of the most effective ways for managers to motivate staff include giving praises, recognition and positive feedback. Motivation is the responsibility of all supervisors. The purpose of this paper is to propose a motivation plan that can be used to implement in any organization to build commitment to the companies goals from employees.

Tying in the companies goals together with the employees individual goals is what a supervisor strives to accomplish. To work together towards the organizations goals managers must offer employees something of value that will put the charge in their step. Their main objective should involve increasing performance through self-motivation, rather than having to use external motivation such as conditions of service. Motivation should be built into the organization system so supervisors will have the opportunity to communicate and motivate staff on their performances through evaluations or words of praise. "Managers must be able to recognize individual differences, match people to jobs, use goals and ensure that goals are perceived as attainable, individualize rewards, link rewards to performance, and check the system for equity." (Robbins, 001) The supervisors show employees how to fulfill their needs while accomplishing the goals of the organization. Motivated employees are happy, committed, and productive.

One of the first things that must be done is an assessment of the motivation issue. Management must assess how to motivate the staff and to determine if there are signs of de-motivation. If the assessment shows serious/critical signs of de-motivation, an action plan needs to be implemented. The question that is probably most often asked by managers is "How do I motivate people at work?" To answer that question discusses with the staff on what their work goals are and how they feel it should be accomplished. Constantly provide feedback on what staff has done well and where improvement is needed. Always encourage the staff to express their views on their performance. Continually evaluate the staff's performance throughout the appraisal period rather than focusing on periods where their performance was particularly good or bad. Provide all the tools necessary and consider the training and/or development needs of staff.

Individual basis motivation can be achieved using worthwhile work, power of acknowledgement, and personal credibility. People need to know that what they are doing has a meaning. This can be accomplished by delegating tasks that challenge the skills and abilities of staff. Giving staff full responsibility of a task from start to finish and then let staff know the "why" to a task. Also let the employees know the impact of the result of their work while explaining the company's visions and goals of the organization.

The power of acknowledgement addresses the issue of recognition. A word of encouragement or a sense of respect can go a long way in motivating someone. This power can be used by encouraging the staff and praise them when something is done right. When you see performance improvement recognize quality performance of individual team members and thank them personally and give credit to team members for their assistance to your achievement. Show appreciation for the value of risk-taking even if it ends with mistakes. An employee needs to see that you are behind them.

Personal Credibility deals with supervisors providing an open environment in which employees feel comfortable to make suggestions. When this environment is achieved, loyalty and commitment from employees is achieved. Managers must then personally abide by the rules and laws of the organization, be a role model for team members. A manager needs to be a motivated manager and be brave enough to admit when they are wrong. Speak positively all the time and be organized with a open mind to suggestions and opinions.

Managers have a responsibility to make the environment motivation friendly. This can be done through people. Accomplish this by giving people work that demands their best and opportunities to learn while keeping team members informed of new developments. Encourage problem solving instead of faultfinding disagree, but never say, "you're wrong". Deal with mistakes constructively and be ready to coach team members like recommending training courses for team members. Show you care by going to team members' desk instead of asking them to come to your office when providing feedback.

Motivation is about communication, working together, sharing common goals, knowing one another and helping one another do a more meaningful job. The end results of motivation are employee loyalty and longevity, desired behaviors and performance and employee accomplishments. It is a mental challenge to set your mind for the improvement of staff motivation. The employees depend on us as managers to look out for them.

Do my essay on Ecstasy CHEAP !

Ecstasy use are the results of dehydration and heatstroke. Dancing in a overcrowded environment while taking ecstasy increases your risk to dehydration and heatstroke because ecstasy raises the body's temperature a few degrees and doesn't allow the body to regulate its own temperature. When the body overheats you lose fluid as much as over three litres in hours. Not replacing that fluid loss with water may lead to dehydration. The common symptoms for suffering for head stroke include failure to sweat, cramps in your limbs or back, headaches, fainting, confusion and vomiting.

Ecstasy is a mood enhancer and it also has a mind stimulant effect, which is why users seem to be able to dance all night.

The effects the drug has on the body can include dryness of mouth, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, sweating, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness and restlessness. Ecstasy also increases heart rate and blood pressure.

Ecstasy can give permanent damage brain damage because it causes the serotonin which is stored in the brain to go hard. After taking ecstasy a few days later to user starts feeling depressed. Ecstasy works by releasing large amounts of brain chemical serotonin from curtain brain cells. This creates the warm and fuzzy feelings the user feels while on ecstasy. Releasing such large amount of serotonin stops the brain supply and it takes a while for these supplies to be replenished.

Anna Wood a young Sydney girl died in 15 from complications arising from ecstasy use. She died from hyponatremia which is caused by drinking more water than the body can process. When you drink too much water, it dilutes the sodium in your blood. Without sodium water is released into your body tissues. Your brain can't handle as much swelling as other body tissues, so if it swells too much, it puts pressure on the brain stem, which controls your heart and breathing functions. This condition can be fatal.
